Kurourushi's Plofile

Kurourushi (JP: 黒漆死) is a registered special grade cursed spirit and a player in the Culling Game. His colony is located in the Sendai Colony, and he possesses 54 points.

Appearance and Personality

Kurourushi

■Appearance
Kurourushi has a jet black body with no visible contours and a grotesque humanoid face resembling an insect with multiple eyes and long antennae. While his arms have an insect like structure, his texture resembles that of a human, making him a highly unnatural being. He possesses infinite hunger and is capable of parthenogenesis.

■Personality
His actions are largely driven by instinct, particularly his hunger. However, he demonstrates a high level of intelligence for a cursed spirit, such as avoiding unfavorable opponents and using weapons strategically.

That said, his sense of morality is entirely self centered, revolving around himself and cockroaches. He repeatedly asserts his own desires, such as questioning why others interfere with him or expressing his fondness for the taste of blood, while completely ignoring others.

Background

Originally, Kurourushi was a cursed spirit under the control of Kenjaku’s Cursed Spirit Manipulation. After being released, he was deployed into the Sendai Colony as a Culling Game player.

Due to his incompatibility with Dhruv Lakdawalla, Kurourushi entered a dormant state, setting Dhruv’s survival within the barrier as a condition for activation. However, when Yuta Okkotsu killed Dhruv, this condition was broken, awakening Kurourushi. Driven by hunger, he attacked Yuta, who possessed immense cursed energy, along with nearby civilians.

Abilities

Kurourushi

■Cursed Technique
Kurourushi can manipulate real cockroaches enhanced by cursed energy. Individually they are not particularly dangerous, but he can command them in overwhelming numbers, forming massive swarms that can cover roads and tunnels. These swarms can devour a human instantly, leaving only bones behind.

■Shikigami
Earthen Insect Trance (JP: 土中蠕定, Dochu Senjo)
A shikigami summoned by forming a hand sign and chanting “blinding, blinding, blinding (JP: 瞎 瞎 瞎 , Kurai Kurai Kurai.” In the series, two are summoned simultaneously.

■Cursed Tool
Festering Life Sword (JP: 爛生刀, Ranshoto)
A hatchet like cursed tool with countless cockroach eggs attached to its blade. When it cuts an opponent, the eggs enter the wound and hatch instantly, allowing cockroaches to consume the victim from within. Due to this effect, it is described as a cursed blade where life and death intertwine. The design suggests inspiration from an ootheca, or egg case.

Role in the Story

Kurourushi battles Yuta Okkotsu in the Sendai Colony. Using his abilities, he pushes Yuta into a difficult fight and attempts to devour him after knocking him unconscious with internal damage caused by Ranshoto. However, he is caught off guard and defeated when Yuta bites into him and injects Reverse Cursed Technique directly into his body.

Although Yuta was not fighting at full strength, as he was concealing Reverse Cursed Technique and had assigned Rika to protect non players, Kurourushi’s power still forced him to use it, demonstrating the strength expected of a special grade cursed spirit.

Later, Kurourushi reappears unexpectedly. During the collapse of the three way Domain Expansion clash between Yuta Okkotsu, Takako Uro, and Ryu Ishigori, he intervenes and attacks Uro, who is unable to defend herself due to her technique being exhausted.

This version of Kurourushi is actually an offspring created through parthenogenesis. Inheriting the fear that had been directed toward the original, this “child” possesses comparable strength. Although it bites off Uro’s arm, it is ultimately exorcised by Yuta using Reverse Cursed Technique, just like the original.
