Kasumi Miwa - Character Overview

Kasumi Miwa is an expressive and lively character in Jujutsu Kaisen. Unlike many other sorcerers in the series, she stands out for her cheerful and carefree personality, making her one of the rare characters with an innocent and lighthearted charm.

Despite her dedication, Miwa has a bit of an airheaded side. Some of her most notable clumsy moments include forgetting to serve tea when asked by the school principal and freezing in shock when her sword is effortlessly taken away by Maki Zenin during battle. She is well aware of her shortcomings; in Episode 18 of the anime, she answers a phone call by sarcastically introducing herself as "Miwa the useless here." Shortly after, she is put to sleep by Toge Inumaki’s cursed speech over the phone, and the sound of her peaceful snoring can be heard through the receiver.

Miwa is also a huge fan of Satoru Gojo, the strongest jujutsu sorcerer. Her admiration for him goes beyond mere respect—she is a genuine fangirl. After witnessing Gojo's conversation with the Kyoto School principal, she eagerly chases after him just to take a photo together.

Interestingly, Jujutsu Kaisen’s Volume 5 reveals that Miwa’s name comes from the Japanese slang "Miha" (ミーハー), which refers to someone who gets easily excited over trends, celebrities, or popular figures.

This perfectly aligns with Miwa’s enthusiastic and starstruck personality.

Kasumi Miwa's Abilities

Kasumi Miwa does not possess an innate cursed technique, but she compensates by mastering the New Shadow Style (Shin-kage-ryu), a specialized sword-drawing technique.

Her signature move is the Simple Domain, a defensive technique that forms a 2.21-meter radius around her. Anything that enters this domain is automatically counterattacked with a full-auto reflex slash. However, this Simple Domain is deactivated if she moves from the position where it was originally deployed, as a result of the binding vow that maintains it.

One of the most significant aspects of Simple Domain is its ability to neutralize the guaranteed hit effects of Domain Expansions. During the battle against Sukuna, she was able to use this ability to protect Maki Zenin from the incomplete effects of Malevolent Shrine (Fukuma Mizushi).

Miwa wields a katana that originally had no cursed properties, but over time, it transformed into a cursed tool. Through constant infusion of her cursed energy, the sword gradually accumulated cursed energy reserves, evolving into a genuine Cursed Tool.
