He is also the creator of Panda, a unique, sentient Cursed Corpse. Highly respected by his students, Yaga is not only a powerful sorcerer but also a dedicated educator who deeply values the growth and well-being of his pupils.

Innate Cursed Technique: Cursed Corpse Creation & Manipulation (Puppet Jujutsu Science)

Overview of Masamichi Yaga

Masamichi Yaga is a stern-looking man with a shaved head, a beard, and sunglasses. Interestingly, he only started wearing sunglasses after becoming the principal of Tokyo Jujutsu High. Despite his tough exterior, he possesses the wisdom befitting an educator, believing that "education is about providing awareness."

A leading expert in Puppet Jujutsu Science, Yaga specializes in creating and manipulating Cursed Corpses (Jugai). He is also the creator of Panda, one of his most advanced Cursed Corpses. Although his appearance may suggest a brute-force fighter, Yaga crafts his own puppets, many of which have surprisingly cute designs that contrast with his intimidating look.

His name and character design are likely inspired by the famous Japanese professional wrestler Masahiro Chono. The kanji for Yaga (夜蛾) translates to "night moth," while Chono (蝶野) means "butterfly field." This wordplay makes the connection between the two names easy to recognize. Additionally, Yaga frequently uses the phrase "Goddamn," a signature catchphrase often used by Chono during matches and interviews.

Masamichi Yaga’s Abilities

Masamichi Yaga's Cursed Technique is Puppet Manipulation (Kairai Sojutsu). This technique allows him to control high-performance puppets remotely using Cursed Energy, enabling them to perform precise and complex movements. The puppets under this technique can share sensory inputs such as hearing and vision with their controller, making real-time communication possible.

However, the Cursed Corpses (Jugai) created by Yaga are fundamentally different from traditional puppets. Unlike puppets that require a constant flow of Cursed Energy from the user for remote control, Cursed Corpses possess an internal core that houses Cursed Energy, allowing them to function autonomously without a sorcerer’s direct manipulation. Though they are not living beings, their independence makes them highly versatile in combat and everyday functions.

Panda

Yaga's Cursed Corpses (Jugai) are not only highly capable in combat but also possess a key advantage over living beings: they feel no pain or fear. Unlike humans, they do not flinch when struck and relentlessly attack their targets without hesitation.

Despite their aggressive nature, Yaga's creations often have a cute, plush-like appearance. However, according to the Jujutsu Kaisen Official Fanbook, "Yaga likes cute things, but he doesn't intentionally try to make his Cursed Corpses look cute when creating them."

■Known Cursed Corpses Created by Yaga

Cathy (キャシィ)
A Cursed Corpse resembling a stout kappa (a mythical Japanese water creature).

Tsukamoto (ツカモト)
A bear-like Cursed Corpse wearing gloves. It normally remains dormant but will attack if not supplied with a continuous flow of Cursed Energy. It was used as a training tool for Yuji Itadori to practice maintaining a steady Cursed Energy output.

Mokyu (モキュ)
A Cursed Corpse that was originally only seen in the series without a name, later revealed in Phantom Parade.

BraPan (ブラパン)
Another Cursed Corpse named in Phantom Parade, resembling a panda wearing a bra.

Takeru (タケル)
A dog-like Cursed Corpse distinguished by its necktie and underpants. It was specially crafted at the request of Atsuya Kusakabe.

Panda (パンダ)
Yaga’s greatest masterpiece—an autonomous, sentient Cursed Corpse capable of speech and emotions. Panda is a second-year student at Tokyo Jujutsu High and one of the most advanced Cursed Corpses ever created.

Following the success of Panda, Yaga continued developing even more advanced Cursed Corpses. His later creations possessed not only human-like emotions but also the ability to replenish their own Cursed Energy. The Jujutsu higher-ups viewed this as a potential threat, believing that Yaga could create an army of Cursed Corpses, leading to their decision to eliminate him.

■Early Events
Initially, Masamichi Yaga opposed Yuji Itadori's admission to Tokyo Jujutsu High. However, during an interview-like exchange, he ultimately approved Yuji’s enrollment after assessing his resolve.

■Kyoto Goodwill Event Arc
Despite being from rival schools, Yaga seems to have a fairly amicable relationship with Yoshinobu Gakuganji, the principal of Kyoto Jujutsu High. At the end of the Kyoto Goodwill Event Arc, the two were seen discussing Yuji Itadori, implying that Yaga had some level of influence over how the Kyoto school perceived him.

■Hidden Inventory / Premature Death Arc
During Satoru Gojo, Suguru Geto, and Shoko Ieiri’s student days, Yaga served as their homeroom teacher. He struggled to manage Gojo and Geto, who were known as troublemakers, but he genuinely cared for his students. When Geto ultimately defected from the Jujutsu world, Gojo was enraged, and Yaga attempted to calm him down—though even he couldn't fully conceal his own shock.

Yaga maintained a strong relationship with Gojo over the years and remained one of his few true confidants.
