■Seiko Ayase Overview
Seiko Ayase is the grandmother and guardian of Momo Ayase. She works as a spiritual medium under the name Dodoria Santa. Despite being a grandmother, she has a youthful appearance and proudly considers herself a “beauty witch.” Although her language is rough and direct, she has a warm heart and fiercely protects her granddaughter, Momo. It’s implied that she once beat up Momo’s ex-boyfriend in Episode 1, suggesting she drives away any man who tries to win over her granddaughter.

Seiko takes care of Okarun after he is cursed by Turbo Granny, and she seems to get along well with Turbo Granny, who now resides in the form of a maneki-neko (lucky cat statue). The two even go to the public bath together.

Seiko has a tendency to feed the younger characters, and whenever the chaos settles down, she often prepares meals like crab hot pot or hosts a barbecue party, serving up her delicious cooking.

Seiko calls herself a “fake medium,” but her skills are the real deal. She has been known to accurately guess the real age and personal circumstances of celebrities who fake their background, and she uses protective wards to shield her home from supernatural threats. Her reputation as a powerful medium is well-established in the spiritual community. She has even faced off against Turbo Granny on her own and occasionally travels as far as Hokkaido for exorcism work, leaving her home unattended.

Seiko’s abilities rely on borrowing power from the local guardian deity (land god), which means she cannot use her powers outside of the specific area. Because of this, she needs to make extensive preparations and perform rituals to pay her respects whenever she travels for work.

As a practicing spiritual medium, Seiko put Momo through special training, referring to it as “protective rituals (JP: Omajainai).” Although young Momo found this embarrassing, she later realized that the training was meant to protect her and was a key factor in awakening her psychic abilities.

In gratitude for her help, Okarun tries to repay Seiko with the money he earned from his newspaper delivery job, intending to cover the costs of living and the clothes she provided him. However, Seiko declines the offer, saying, “What good would it do to repay me, you fool? If you feel indebted for the help you received, then repay that debt by helping someone else in need (JP: Otagaisama.) That’s what we call ‘mutual support.’” These words leave a lasting impression on Okarun.
