Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End Appears on CanCam Cover With Original Artwork as Atsumi Tanezaki and Nobuhiko Okamoto Mirror the Same Pose

It has been announced that the anime Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End will appear on the cover of the special March issue of the Japanese fashion magazine CanCam, which goes on sale on the 22nd. The cover features Frieren, the protagonist and a mage, alongside the hero Himmel, in a completely original illustration newly created by the animation studio MADHOUSE.

In the series, Frieren and Himmel are typically seen wearing outfits based on white and light blue tones. For this issue, however, they present a more mature monotone style that reflects CanCam’s signature aesthetic. Their coordinated sneakers, the inclusion of the significant flower known as Blue Moon Weed, and the overall sense of visual harmony create a stylish look that emphasizes their connection. Himmel’s gaze toward Frieren, which invites readers to imagine their relationship, is another highlight of the illustration.

Inside the magazine, CanCam delivers a major feature revisiting the appeal of Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End, a title that has gained many fans among the magazine’s core readership. The feature includes recommended comments from CanCam it girl reader models, as well as a section replaying memorable quotes and iconic scenes from the anime’s first season.

The issue also includes a special conversation between voice actors Atsumi Tanezaki, who voices Frieren, and Nobuhiko Okamoto, who voices Himmel. Their expressive performances and deep affection for the series are considered key factors behind the anime’s popularity. Reflecting on the first season, Tanezaki commented that while she carefully considers the story and character before recording, she ultimately found herself focusing more on the moment to moment interactions with her fellow cast members during the sessions.

Okamoto shared a similar perspective, explaining that he valued the flow of conversation with his scene partners. He noted that the series does not rely on clear cut signature lines, but instead allows meaning and emotion to emerge naturally through dialogue, making the exchange itself central to his performance.

Although they did not plan their approach together, the two actors found themselves recording with the same mindset. Their favorite scenes, memorable lines, and further discussion of season two highlights and character portrayal can be found in the full interview in the magazine.
