Volume 2 of Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End Novel to Be Released in Japan on December 18: Five Untold Stories Including Übel’s Past and Serie’s Days with Flamme
The second volume of the novel adaptation Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End 2 will be released in Japan on December 18, 2025. Supervised by the manga’s original author Kanehito Yamada, the prequel novel features five short stories that delve into events not depicted in the main series — including Übel’s past, the elven homeland where Frieren was born, the daily life of the Continental Magic Association, and Serie’s time living alongside her master Flamme.

The Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End manga, serialized in Weekly Shonen Sunday since April 2020, is a post-epic fantasy following the heroes after they have already defeated the Demon King. The story centers on the elf mage Frieren, who embarks on new adventures with her companions in a world without her hero. Known for its poignant dialogue, powerful battles of magic and swordsmanship, and moments of gentle humor, the series has won widespread acclaim — earning the Manga Taisho 2021 Grand Prize and surpassing 30 million copies in circulation.
The first season of the TV anime aired from September 2023 to March 2024, ending with Frieren, Fern, and Stark continuing their journey toward their ultimate destination, the land where souls rest — “Aureole.” The second season, set to premiere in January 2026, will adapt the story beginning from Chapter 61 in Volume 7 of the manga.
