Frieren Beyond Journey’s End Season 2 Episode 1 Story & Preview Cuts Released: A New Journey Begins with Battles and Reunions

The story and preview images for Episode 1 of Frieren Beyond Journey’s End Season 2 (overall Episode 29) have been revealed. This episode will air on Friday, January 16 at 11:00 PM (JST), and will later be available on various international streaming platforms.

After leaving the magic city of Äußerst, Frieren, Fern, and Stark continue their journey through the northern lands. Along the way, they fall into a hole caused by unstable ground. What they find below is an area completely covered in a mineral known as Magic-Sealing Ore, which has the power to nullify magic.

Unable to use magic, Frieren and Fern search for a path back to the surface, when a monster suddenly appears before them.

Episode 29 marks the beginning of a new journey in Season 2. In addition to showcasing the calm and steady travels of Frieren, Fern, and Stark, the episode also features intense combat with monsters. Familiar faces from the First-Class Mage Exam arc also make their return, including Wirbel, voiced by Kisho Taniyama.

Serialized in Weekly Shonen Sunday, Frieren Beyond Journey’s End is a “post-adventure fantasy” that depicts what happens after the hero’s party defeats the Demon King. The story follows Frieren, an elven mage, as she embarks on a new journey with new companions in a world after the hero’s death.

With its unique timeline set after the Demon King’s defeat, the series has captivated readers through its emotionally resonant drama, memorable dialogue, magical and sword-based battles, and moments of gentle humor woven together by its richly developed characters. The anime’s first season aired from September 2023 to March 2024, concluding with Frieren, Fern, and Stark continuing their journey toward Aureole, the resting place of souls. Season 2 begins adapting the story from Chapter 61 of Volume 7 of the original manga.
