Hero of the South Profile

The Hero of the South was once revered as the strongest hero in human history. He possessed the rare and extraordinary ability of perfect future sight magic, allowing him to foresee events far into the future.

In parts of the northern continent, his popularity even surpassed that of Himmel.

In the past, before Frieren set out on her journey, he attempted to recruit her as a companion. However, through his future sight, he already knew that Frieren would not join him.

The Hero of the South was a dignified and refined man, characterized by a well groomed beard, neatly styled hair, and an elegant appearance befitting a true gentleman.
Through his future sight magic, he understood that Frieren would eventually meet Himmel and that this encounter would profoundly change her life. Knowing that Himmel would ultimately become the hero who saved the world, he parted from Frieren after leaving her with a message. He asked her to tell the hero she would one day meet that the Hero of the South would surely clear the path ahead.

Role and Achievements in the Story

The following section contains spoilers.

In the early part of the story, the Hero of the South is mentioned only briefly, described as having been killed by the Seven Sages of Destruction. Some readers initially regarded him as little more than a background character. However, as the story progresses, both his true strength and the mysteries surrounding him become increasingly clear.

The title of strongest human was no exaggeration. During his lifetime, he annihilated the Demon King Army’s frontline forces within a single year, pushing them back significantly. He then advanced alone to the very heart of their supply routes.

At that location, he confronted Schlacht, the all knowing demon capable of future sight, along with Macht of the Golden Land and the remaining members of the Seven Sages of Destruction. It is said that during this battle, the Hero of the South took Schlacht and three other sages down with him.

This alone demonstrates combat power worthy of the strongest human title.

■The Mystery Surrounding His Death

The most crucial battle scene remains shrouded in mystery, as the memories of Macht, who participated in the fight, were erased by Schlacht and Grausam. As a result, many details about how the battle unfolded and what the Hero of the South’s final moments were like remain unknown.

When Eisen spoke about the Hero of the South, he also did not specify which of the Seven Sages of Destruction was responsible for his death. Furthermore, the Hero of the South himself never stated that he would perish together with Schlacht, nor that he would take three of the Seven Sages down with him.

Needless to say, the Seven Sages of Destruction each possessed immense power.
・Aura of the Guillotine wielded magic that allowed her to place anyone with inferior mana under complete domination.
・Macht of the Golden Land commanded a curse of golden transmutation that could neither be blocked nor evaded.
・Grausam possessed the miraculous ability to manipulate memories and plunge his targets into illusions indistinguishable from reality.
・Böse the Immortal created barriers so formidable that even Frieren once believed they could not be undone.

All of them were masters of magic that could result in instant death if no countermeasures were available. How the Hero of the South managed to deal with these abilities alone is itself a major mystery.

Considering that his ability allowed him to see the future but likely did not grant him the power to change it, questions remain as to how useful such an ability truly was in combat.

According to Schlacht, the battle with the Hero of the South marked a turning point for demonkind, suggesting that there was at least one major event that must never be revealed to Frieren.

Serie, the strongest and oldest mage in the world, also stated that his magic was highly unusual. She remarked that she had only ever seen one individual capable of perfect future prediction, indicating that the Hero of the South was an exceptional anomaly even among mages.
