With the release of the ninth volume of Kaiju No. 8 on the 3rd, the total worldwide circulation has surpassed 11 million copies, including 10 million within Japan alone. This represents a significant increase of approximately 2 million copies since the release of the eighth volume last November, which had a total circulation of 8.88 million at the time.

Kaiju No. 8 unfolds in a world where kaiju (monstrous disasters) relentlessly invade daily life, with the story set in Japan, a country known for one of the highest rates of kaiju appearances in the world. Kafka Hibino, the 32-year-old protagonist who works in cleaning up the carcasses of kaiju defeated by the Defense Force, undergoes a transformation into a kaiju himself due to a mysterious creature. As he chases his dream of becoming a Defense Force member, he is given the codename Kaiju No. 8 by the Japan Defense Force.

Since its serialization in Shonen Jump+ in July 2020, Kaiju No. 8 quickly became a record-breaker on the app, surpassing 30 million views faster than any other series in the app's history. It also swiftly reached 4 million copies in circulation (including digital editions), and in the Next Manga Award 2021 user voting project announced on August 24, 2021, it won the grand prize in the Web Manga Category, attracting significant attention from manga fans and achieving the top annual sales for its first volume in 2020. A television anime adaptation is scheduled to be broadcast in 2024.

Synopsis of Volume 9:

Meanwhile, Narumi instructs Kikoru to learn to use her mother's keepsake, the Identifiable Kaiju Weapon No. 4.
