Muzan Kibutsuji is "the enemy of all humanity" and "the strongest and worst progenitor of demons": Voice actor Toshihiko Seki analyzes the character
A special screening of the climax of the anime "Demon Slayer: Hashira Training Arc" was held late at night on June 30th in Tokyo. Toshiyuki Morikawa (voice of Kagaya Ubuyashiki) and Toshihiko Seki (voice of Muzan Kibutsuji) appeared on stage to reflect on their roles and the work.
The audience, who experienced episodes 7 and the final episode 8 on the big screen, were captivated by the shocking developments and powerful visuals. After the screening, it was announced that the movie "Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle Arc" would be produced as a trilogy, bringing excitement to its peak. The event, filled with such fervor, began with a reading by Morikawa and Seki. They reflected on the story from their perspectives and performed the memorable confrontation scene between Ubuyashiki and Muzan from episode 8, instantly drawing the audience into the world of "Demon Slayer." After the reading, they were met with thunderous applause. Morikawa expressed his gratitude, saying, "Thank you for coming at such a ghostly hour! This is my first time participating in such an event for 'Demon Slayer.' I look forward to it." Seki added, "I am very happy that so many people came at such a late hour. I never imagined that Morikawa and I would be doing a reading right after episodes 7 and 8. I'm happy that everyone got to see the climax of the Hashira Training Arc on the big screen! Please enjoy!" Both expressed their deep emotions.
Reflecting on the reading, Morikawa shared his joy, saying, "It was a blissful time. I wished it could go on forever. I'm sure everyone was surprised that it started with a reading. It was fun." Seki commented on the rarity of the event, saying, "It's unprecedented for Ubuyashiki and Muzan to stand together at an event like this. It's wonderful because such an event made it possible."
Morikawa talked about his character Ubuyashiki, saying, "In today's final episode, Ubuyashiki confronted Muzan. The journey to that point was the culmination of what has been inherited within the Ubuyashiki family. I tried to share that emotion with the viewers of the anime." In contrast, Seki, who voices Muzan, touched on his character, saying, "Muzan Kibutsuji is truly the enemy of all humanity, the strongest and worst progenitor of demons. In the 1000 years since he was born, I think Muzan has deeply sunk into the darkness of his heart."
Regarding Ubuyashiki's line in episode 8, "Eternity is the will of people, it is the will of people that is eternal and immortal," Morikawa said, "I was performing as someone who is bedridden and struggling for life, but to me, it felt like a hopeful line. I thought it was a really good line that 'felt like light,' precisely because it highlights the significant difference between demons and humans."
Furthermore, when the discussion turned to the announcement of the production of the "Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle Arc" trilogy, Seki said, "You all support Tanjiro, don't you? But it won't be that easy! I want to give my all to this movie trilogy. Please continue to support us."
On the other hand, Morikawa said, "The feelings are firmly connected to the next part. The Hashira and the Demon Slayer Corps have undergone blood-stained training in this Hashira Training Arc. I believe they will all come together as one solid unit to fight Muzan. Along with my hope that everyone will enjoy the 'Infinity Castle Arc' trilogy, I hope you will also direct your support towards the Corps and the Hashira. Thank you." With this heartfelt message to fans of "Demon Slayer," the event concluded with great success.
