"Darwin Incident" carries the tagline "Why are humans the only special ones?" and is a "human" drama that tackles issues such as "terrorism" and "discrimination" with non-human creatures confronting human problems. During an attack by the terrorist organization "Animal Liberation Alliance (ALA)" on a biological science research institute, a pregnant female chimpanzee is rescued. She gives birth to Charlie, a "humanzee" who is half human and half chimpanzee. Charlie is raised by human parents for 15 years and enrolls in high school, where he meets the brilliant but socially awkward Lucy. However, they attract the attention of the ALA, a terrorist group advocating for "animal liberation."

It has swept various manga awards, including the "Manga Taisho 2022" grand prize, the "25th Japan Media Arts Festival" Manga Division Excellence Award, second place in the "Recommended Comics 2022" by comic book publishers, and the "BDGest'Arts" Asia Section at the 50th Angoulême International Comics Festival in France, demonstrating its high popularity both in Japan and overseas.

Comment from the Author, Shun Umezawa

I'm the type of person who tends to get overly ambitious about everything, but I honestly didn't think "Darwin Incident" would ever be adapted into an anime. So, my initial reaction when I received the offer was something like, "...Seriously?" However, as I got involved as a supervisor, I realized that this was "completely serious." The production team and the voice actors are 100% serious about it. As the original author, I can guarantee this much: it's going to be an amazing anime.
