Manga "Hana-Kimi: For You in Full Blossom" to Be Animated for the First Time, 20 Years After Completion—Project Advanced with Hisaya Nakajo Before Her Death
It has been decided that the manga "Hana-Kimi: For You in Full Blossom" (Hana-Kimi) will be adapted into an anime for the first time.
"Hana-Kimi: For You in Full Blossom" was serialized in the manga magazine "Hana to Yume" from 1996 to 2004. It features the protagonist Mizuki, a girl who disguises her gender and transfers to an all-boys boarding school in Japan from America to meet her idol, the high jumper Izumi Sano. By fate or coincidence, she ends up sharing a room with Sano, leading to a perilous life at the boys' school.
The story became popular through TV dramas, one in 2007 starring Maki Horikita, Shun Oguri, Toma Ikuta, and Hiro Mizushima, and another in 2011 featuring Atsuko Maeda, Aoi Nakamura, and Shohei Miura.
The author, Hisaya Nakajo, passed away in October 2023. The "Hana to Yume" editorial department commented on the anime adaptation: "‘Hana-Kimi: For You in Full Blossom’ will be turned into an anime! This has been a project in progress, discussed together with Ms. Nakajo. She was looking forward to seeing the world of 'Hana-Kimi' woven in a different expressive manner from the manga, enjoying the rough sketches of the characters and the scenarios."
"It is a great pity that we cannot witness the completed version together with the teacher, but thanks to the passionate support of our readers, it is truly precious that 'Hana-Kimi: For You in Full Blossom,' almost 20 years after its conclusion, is set to come alive again as an anime," they added. "We are collaborating with the production team and the editorial department to meet the expectations of Ms. Nakajo and our readers, so please look forward to the broadcast!"
