Manga "Tougen Anki: Dark Demon of Paradise" to Be Adapted into TV Anime in 2025; PV Released Featuring Kazuki Ura, Hiroshi Kamiya, and Kotao Nishiyama
The popular manga "Tougen Anki: Dark Demon of Paradise" (authored by Yura Urushibara), currently serialized in "Weekly Shonen Champion" (Akita Shoten), is confirmed to be adapted into a television anime.
Drawing from the well-known Japanese folk tale "Momotaro," this work, which began serialization in 2020 and has since surpassed 3 million copies in cumulative circulation, portrays the conflict between those descended from oni (demons) and those from Momotaro. The significant 20th volume is set to be released on May 8th.
In June 2023, the "Tougen Anki Project" was launched, and its first installment, a stage play titled "Tougen Anki," featuring a stellar performance by Akira Abe and others, received acclaim, with a sequel already scheduled for January 2025. Following this, the second installment, a teaser PV for the anime, premiered on the official YouTube channel, confirming its anime adaptation for 2025.
Concurrently, the official anime website 'X' was launched, unveiling teaser visuals and the character visuals and cast for the central characters: Shiki Ichinose, Naito Mudano, and Jin Kogasaki.
The teaser visual depicts the protagonist Shiki Ichinose standing against the backdrop of a crumbling building, his demonic blood overriding his reason due to emotional agitation, his face displaying a sinister smile. This image sets the tone for a new era of dark hero tales.
The teaser PV pairs striking lines from the original work with visuals that portray the conflicted emotions of Shiki, who struggles with the discovery of his demonic heritage, offering a glimpse into the beginning of the story.
The cast has also been announced. Kazuki Ura, who has been actively involved in various capacities since the project's inception and won the Best Lead Actor Award at the 18th Voice Actor Awards in March, will voice the protagonist Shiki Ichinose. Hiroshi Kamiya will play Mujina Mutano, an instructor at Rasetsu Academy, where Shiki enrolls, and Hirotao Nishiyama will take on the role of Jin Kosaka, a fellow student at the academy.
