"Fist of the North Star" Creator Tetsuo Hara Unveils Exclusive "Mad Max: Furiosa" Illustration
At the 77th Cannes Film Festival, currently taking place in France, "Mad Max: Furiosa" had its world premiere ahead of its May 31 release. In a remarkable collaboration, renowned manga artist Tetsuo Hara, known for the beloved "Fist of the North Star," has created an exclusive illustration of the film's protagonist, Furiosa.
The unveiled illustration features Furiosa with a buzz cut, a prosthetic left hand, and a gun in her right hand. Hara's signature dramatic style is evident, yet the artwork is intricate and brimming with dynamism, capturing Furiosa's regal strength as if she could spring into action at any moment. Hara, who regards director George Miller as a creative mentor and long-time idol, has poured his passion into this collaboration, producing a truly captivating piece.
After an early screening of the film, Hara commented, "Everything about it is superb! It was entertaining from start to finish! I have been greatly influenced by George Miller's work. Just when I thought I had seen it all, he shows us something new and groundbreaking. I truly admire his work and wish to be his disciple!"
This collaboration illustration will also grace the cover of the upcoming issue of "Eiga Hiho" magazine, set for release on the 21st of this month. The issue will feature the first-ever interview between Hara and George Miller, the "creator god" of "Mad Max," marking a historic moment 40 years in the making.
In celebration of the 40th anniversary of "Fist of the North Star," a new anime adaptation titled "Fist of the North Star: FIST OF THE NORTH STAR" has been announced. This new adaptation promises to faithfully bring the world created by Buronson and Hara to life with a new staff, cast, and the latest animation technology. Details on the broadcasting and streaming platforms, as well as the release schedule, will be announced later. The teaser key visual for the new anime, similar in spirit to the Furiosa collaboration illustration, depicts Kenshiro standing powerfully, embodying his formidable presence.
