The latest episode of the anime The Apothecary Diaries (Kusuriya no Hitorigoto), Episode 35, is set to air on March 21 at 11:30 PM (JST) as part of Nippon TV’s FRIDAY ANIME NIGHT (FuraAni) programming block. The episode synopsis, preview images unveiled.

"The Hunt"

Maomao accompanies Jinshi, who has been invited to a hunting trip by Princess Loulan’s father, Shisho. As a result, she temporarily leaves the rear palace and travels to Shihoku Province, the land governed by Shisho’s clan, along with Jinshi, Gaoshun, and his son Basen.

During a grand banquet, Jinshi keeps the windows of his residence tightly shut and even disguises himself with a mask and a false name. While Maomao finds Jinshi’s actions puzzling, a hidden conspiracy begins to unfold behind the scenes.

Later that night, to fulfill her promise, Maomao ventures to an old, abandoned palace wing with Ouka. There, they are welcomed by an elegant lady-in-waiting, and soon, a group of female attendants gathers to share eerie ghost stories…

Based on the light novel series The Apothecary Diaries by Natsu Hyuuga with character designs by Touko Shino, the franchise boasts over 38 million copies in circulation. This mystery-solving entertainment follows Maomao, a pharmacist with a peculiar obsession with poisons and medicines, and Jinshi, a mysterious and handsome eunuch, as they unravel complex incidents in the imperial palace.

The anime's first season, which aired in October 2023, captivated audiences with Maomao’s spirited heroine, engaging mysteries, and intricate human drama within the rear palace. The series consistently ranked high across streaming platforms.

In Season 2, tensions escalate in the imperial palace with the announcement of Empress Gyokuyou’s pregnancy. Adding to the intrigue are the arrival of Consort Rouran, daughter of a key minister from the previous emperor’s era, an unprecedented unresolved attempt on Jinshi’s life, and the disappearance of suspect Sui Reiyuu. Foreign delegations and special envoys with unreasonable demands further complicate matters, leading to a crisis that threatens the entire nation.
