The latest episode of the anime The Apothecary Diaries (Kusuriya no Hitorigoto), Episode 31, is set to air on February 21 at 11:30 PM (JST) as part of Nippon TV’s FRIDAY ANIME NIGHT (FuraAni) programming block. The episode synopsis, preview images unveiled.

Maomao accompanies Xiaolan to her learning center and visits her instructor, an elderly eunuch. From his window, she notices an old shrine, sparking her curiosity. The old eunuch explains, "Rulers of this land must pass through that shrine, and only those who choose the correct path can become the region’s leader."

Later, while performing her usual duty as a food taster for Consort Gyokuyō and the Emperor, Maomao is suddenly ordered by the Emperor to accompany him. She then reunites with Jinshi, who has also been summoned. Their destination? The very shrine Maomao had seen earlier—the Shrine of Choices.
