Ryōhei Suzuki as Ryō Saeba: Confidence in the Live-Action 'City Hunter' Gun Action—'A High Level of Excellence'
Actor Ryōhei Suzuki appeared at the blue carpet world premiere event for the Netflix movie "City Hunter" (starting streaming on the 25th) held in Shinjuku, Tokyo on the 23rd. He confidently showcased his mastery of gun action, a highlight of his role in the live-action adaptation of "City Hunter."
"City Hunter," originally a manga series by Tsukasa Hojo, started its run in 1985 in Shueisha's "Weekly Shōnen Jump." Set in Shinjuku, Tokyo, it follows the elite sweeper Ryō Saeba, who handles various troubles in the underworld. The Netflix movie "City Hunter" portrays the beginnings of the 'City Hunter' trio—Ryō Saeba (Suzuki), Kaori Makimura (Mochi Morita), and Hideyuki Makimura (Masanobu Ando)—in modern-day Shinjuku. Fumino Kimura plays Saeko Nogami, a skilled detective at the Tokyo Metropolitan Police.
The event was also attended by Morita, Ando, Fumino Kimura, director Yūichi Satō, and Tetsuya Komuro. Suzuki expressed his excitement and gratitude: "I never imagined such a huge event could take place in Shinjuku, the sacred ground of 'City Hunter.' I'm thankful to everyone, and it feels like a great start is finally kicking off!" Regarding the film's significant highlight, the "gun action," Suzuki said, "Half of this film is playful (laughs), but the other half is very serious, especially the action scenes. The gun action, in particular, is intense and challenging. I believe we have achieved a level of quality that can compete with any gun action in Japanese cinema." His co-star Morita, who plays Kaori, admired Suzuki's dedication: "I feel so fortunate to have seen him prepare so thoroughly and tackle the filming perfectly."
