[Dragon Ball DAIMA] Masako Nozawa on Meeting Goku: "I’m So Happy" [Past Interview]
In a past ORICON NEWS interview, Masako Nozawa, who voices Son Goku, and Toshio Furukawa, who voices Piccolo, reflected on what Dragon Ball means to them.
Dragon Ball began airing in 1986. Furukawa shared, "I might say I learned more from Nozawa than from the show itself."
"There’s an old saying about considering others, and Nozawa is always mindful of everyone around her. Even though being the lead role is tough, she still cares for the newcomers. Watching her do that made me realize that her 'kindness' is also reflected in the characters of Dragon Ball," he revealed.
He continued, "Whenever a newcomer was nervous or stumbled over their lines, she would always comfort them. She’d say, 'I wasn’t that good when I was younger either,' and offer them treats or bring them coffee. Seeing that made me want to be a senior like her. I’ve learned so much not just from the show, but also from working with Nozawa in person."
On the other hand, Nozawa, who voices Goku, reflected, "I think I’ve been deeply influenced by Dragon Ball in many ways. Even in my daily life, when I’m unsure of what to do, I think, 'What would Goku do in this situation?' Since Goku is someone who’s always on the move, he probably has a lot of things he wants to do. So, when I’m bored, I often act from Goku’s perspective (laughs)."
During the interview, Furukawa remarked, "For Nozawa, it’s become something like a lifelong vocation." Nozawa responded with a smile, "I’m living a good life. Meeting Dragon Ball and Goku has made me very happy."
