The world premiere screening event with a stage greeting for the 40th-anniversary celebration of "DRAGON BALL" titled "Dragon Ball Daimatsuri" was held on the 6th at Tokyo Big Sight. The first episode of the new series Dragon Ball DAIMA, which will begin airing at 11:40 p.m. on the 11th, was screened, with many Dragon Ball fans eagerly watching.
Before the screening, Masako Nozawa, the voice actor of the protagonist Son Goku, and executive producer Akio Iyoku took the stage. During the 40th-anniversary ceremony, they broke open a ceremonial ball with Goku to mark the milestone. Iyoku emphasized that Dragon Ball DAIMA represents the first step of the 40th anniversary and expressed his excitement for the future of the series.
This series is a completely new anime, featuring a brand-new episode written by the late manga artist Akira Toriyama, who passed away on March 1st. Nozawa shared her surprise and excitement, saying, "I was shocked! I feel the same way as everyone else. What’s going to happen? I'm excited and filled with anticipation!"
In addition to Nozawa and Iyoku, other cast members, including Yumiko Kobayashi (who voices Supreme Kai), Koki Uchiyama (Glorio), and Fairouz Ai (Panji), also appeared on stage. Each of them expressed their joy in playing their roles and being part of the Dragon Ball series.
The event also featured the first live performances of the opening theme "Jaka☆Jaan" by the singer-songwriter duo C&K, and the ending theme "NAKAMA" by artist AI.
Dragon Ball DAIMA is set to begin airing at 11:40 p.m. on October 11th. This marks the first Dragon Ball TV anime in six years since the conclusion of Dragon Ball Super in March 2018, and it will be the first time the series airs in a late-night time slot.
