Hello Kitty 50th Anniversary Exhibition: Exclusive Goods, Collaborations, and Free Videos in 2024
To celebrate the 50th anniversary of Sanrio’s beloved character Hello Kitty, the exhibition titled Hello Kitty Exhibition – As I Change, Kitty Changes Too will be held from November 1, 2024, to February 24, 2025, at the Hyokeikan in the Tokyo National Museum (Ueno Park).
This exhibition will feature the largest-ever display of Hello Kitty goods, original videos, and collaborative works with artists, offering a unique look into the world of Hello Kitty. Visitors of all generations will be able to enjoy nostalgic displays of goods, as well as collaborations that can only be seen at this exhibition.
During the exhibition period, Hello Kitty will also serve as the special ambassador of the Tokyo National Museum and will act as the one-day museum director. The exhibition will also tour Okinawa from March to May 2025, Fukuoka from June to August, Kyoto from September to December, and Nagoya from December 2025 to February 2026. Various displays will highlight the unique Hello Kitty merchandise, including a wall showcasing past goods and a photo-worthy display that reflects Hello Kitty's influence on fashion trends.
A section dedicated to Hello Kitty’s historical collaborations will feature over 100 pieces from the "Gotochi Kitty" series, showing the many forms Kitty has taken. Additionally, early rare collaboration items will be on display, illustrating the character’s adaptability and her ability to resonate with everyone and everything.
In the screening corner, an original video by director Atsushi Makino, known for his numerous commercials and music videos, will be presented. This video will explore the changes in Hello Kitty’s design over the years, revealing the secret behind her ability to evolve. Additionally, the exhibition will feature illustrations by 30 different artists, each creating works inspired by the theme "Me and Kitty."
Visitors will also be able to enjoy a giant photo spot featuring Hello Kitty, along with other popular Sanrio characters such as My Melody, Pompompurin, Cinnamoroll, and Kuromi. This area will allow guests to fully immerse themselves in the world of Sanrio’s kawaii.
In collaboration with the Tokyo National Museum, the exhibition will feature iconic Japanese artworks like the Beauty Looking Back painting, the Wind God and Thunder God Folding Screen, and The Actor Otani Oniji III as Edohei. Exclusive merchandise, including sweets, plush toys, and mascot holders from the Mojimoji Hello Kitty series, will be available for purchase, alongside items designed specifically for this event.
