[Expo 2025] Hello Kitty Transforms into 32 Unique Algae Species at Japan Pavilion for Osaka-Kansai Expo 2025
It has been announced that Sanrio's beloved character, Hello Kitty, will make an appearance at the Japan Pavilion of the Osaka-Kansai Expo, which opens in April 2025.
The Japan Pavilion will consist of three zones: the "Plant Area," "Farm Area," and "Factory Area."
Hello Kitty will be featured in the Farm Area, where she will transform into 32 different types of algae with unique shapes, including triangular, square, dodecahedral, and clover-like forms. Through these transformations, Hello Kitty will charmingly introduce the fascinating potential and beauty of algae.
The Japan Pavilion aims to represent the concept of "circulation" — from waste to water, water to materials, and materials to products — across its three zones. Algae, which are attracting attention as a solution to various global challenges, such as over-dependence on finite fossil resources and food shortages, will play a key role in this narrative.
By utilizing photosynthesis, algae efficiently store solar energy and produce diverse organic compounds. These organisms can be used directly as food or feed, and their extracted materials can be applied across various industries, including pharmaceuticals, fuels, plastics, and textiles. The pavilion offers a fun and educational space to explore the vast possibilities of algae.
