Whether you’re already a fan or just curious about the hype, we’ve gathered everything you need to know—his height, weight, raw football abilities, and how he’s shaken things up in key episodes. What is the Anime "Blue Lock" Where Ryusei Shidou Appears?

Blue Lock is a Japanese manga series written by Muneyuki Kaneshiro and illustrated by Yusuke Nomura. It first appeared in Kodansha's Weekly Shonen Magazine, starting with issue 35 back in 2018. The series got off to a quick start and, in May 2021, it won the 45th Kodansha Manga Award in the shonen category — a big win for a bold concept.
The idea is as fierce as it is unique. Blue Lock is a cutting-edge training facility built with one goal in mind: to create the world's greatest egoist striker. Out of 300 of the best high school forwards in Japan, only one will be picked to lead the national team to World Cup glory. What follows is a non-stop selection trial process that pushes each player to their limit – physically, mentally and emotionally. It's like survival of the fittest, but for strikers.

Ryusei Shidou via Manga Blue Lock Vol.12 cover
Ryusei Shidou is the very definition of a hyper-offensive striker—reckless, fiery, and completely devoted to what he proudly calls his "explosive" style of soccer. He's rough, no doubt about it, but beneath that volatile surface lies a killer instinct for the game. Shidou has an uncanny natural sense for soccer, especially inside the box, where he can sniff out scoring chances with terrifying precision.
He’s not someone you'd want to cross—his tendency toward violence makes him a genuinely dangerous presence both on and off the field. But make no mistake: his passion for soccer is the real deal. For Shidou, the game isn't just something he plays—he sees it as a vital part of his very life force.

Who is Ryusei Shidou's Voice Actor in the Blue Lock Anime?

Yuichi Nakamura as Ryusei Shidou
Ryusei Shidou's intense presence in Blue Lock is brought to life by none other than Yuichi Nakamura. Born on February 20 in Kagawa Prefecture, Nakamura is a seasoned voice actor with a seriously impressive resume. You might recognize him as Karamatsu Matsuno in Osomatsu-san or the ever-popular Satoru Gojo in Jujutsu Kaisen.
What sets Nakamura apart is his incredible range—he’s voiced everyone from high school teens to elderly men, and even taken on multiple characters in a single series. In 2022, his stellar work as Gojo and other standout performances earned him the Best Supporting Actor Award at the 16th Seiyu Awards. And that wasn’t all—he was also named MVS (Most Valuable Seiyu) at the 18th Seiyu Awards. Clearly, when it comes to delivering powerful, unforgettable characters, Nakamura’s got the chops.

■Super Spatial Awareness
One of Ryusei Shidou’s deadliest assets on the field is his Super Spatial Awareness. Inside the penalty area, his sense of space is almost superhuman—he can zero in on the goal’s location even with his back turned. It’s like he’s got a built-in radar for scoring.
When he’s locked in on the idea of putting the ball in the net, Shidou has a knack for doing it from angles or situations that would seem downright impossible for most players. Thanks to his razor-sharp instincts and almost martial arts-like body control, he can twist, turn, and strike from positions that leave defenders and goalkeepers totally off guard. It’s this unpredictability that makes him so lethal—he doesn’t just score goals, he creates them out of thin air.

■First Selection
Not much is clearly shown about Shidou’s performance during the First Selection, but according to scattered clues, he was tearing it up at a separate facility from Isagi’s group. Judging by the color of his cleats, there’s a solid theory that he played on Team V—and based on that, it’s widely speculated that he was the top scorer there.

■Second Selection
The official guidebook places Shidou at 111th coming out of the first stage of the Second Selection. From there, he formed a team with two others, including Igarashi. Unfortunately—or perhaps predictably—it didn’t go smoothly. Shidou ended up getting a red card for violent conduct, costing the team the match. Afterward, he even tried to dropkick Igarashi with a heel, only to be stopped by Rensuke Kunigami. That clash sparked a bitter rivalry.
He later went up against Reo Mikage and Kunigami, leading his team to a 5-2 victory. He chose Reo as his teammate and moved on to the third stage.
In episode 24, it’s revealed that Shidou advanced through the Second Selection with a lineup featuring Reo, Igarashi, Ranze Kurona, and Tetsu Sokura. But his sharp, biting remarks toward Kunigami (whom he didn’t pick) stirred serious resentment—not just from Kunigami, but also from Isagi, Chigiri, and Bachira.

■World Select Match
This part wasn’t shown in the anime, but according to the official info, Shidou scored a goal against the World Select team.
■Third Selection
Shidou’s insane performance—including that World Select goal—landed him the No. 2 spot among the Top 6 players. He was paired with Rin Itoshi (ranked No. 1) to lead Team A. In their first match, Shidou did what he does best: he pounced on a loose ball in the penalty area and blasted it in from an impossible angle—without even properly facing the net.
But of course, where Shidou goes, friction follows. His intense personality clashed hard with Rin’s, and their disagreement exploded into a full-on fight. Ego had to step in with an anti-riot electric shock device to break it up, and both were thrown into solitary confinement.
Isagi described Shidou and Rin as the "worst combination." Despite their differences, Shidou showed respect for Isagi’s abilities, acknowledging his skill after Isagi scored a decisive goal in the first match.
Despite his skills, Shidou’s out-of-control behavior meant he wasn’t included in the starting lineup for the U-20 Japan National Team at first. But Ego had other plans—he revealed, to everyone’s surprise, that Shidou had made the team after all.
Even after joining the U-20 team, Shidou didn’t dial it down one bit. He immediately picked a fight with Seidou, the team’s ace—but ended up getting shut down by Oliver Aiku.
