Pokémon & Nintendo Sue Pocketpair Over 'Palworld' for Alleged Patent Infringements
On the 19th, Pokémon and Nintendo announced on their official website that they have filed a lawsuit against Pocketpair, the company responsible for developing and distributing the game "Palworld."
The two companies titled their statement, "Regarding the Filing of a Patent Infringement Lawsuit Against Pocketpair Inc.," and stated, "On September 18, 2024, we filed a lawsuit against Pocketpair Inc. (Headquarters: 2-10-2 Higashi-Gotanda, Shinagawa-ku, Tokyo; hereafter referred to as the 'Defendant') with the Tokyo District Court for patent infringement."
They continued, "This lawsuit seeks an injunction against the defendant’s infringing activities and damages, claiming that the game 'Palworld,' developed and distributed by the defendant, infringes on multiple patent rights." The companies added, "We will continue to take necessary actions to protect our valuable intellectual property, including our brand, which we have built up over many years of effort."

Regarding the Filing of a Patent Infringement Lawsuit Against Pocket Pair Inc.
Nintendo Co., Ltd. (Headquarters: Minami-ku, Kyoto; President: Shuntaro Furukawa; hereinafter referred to as “Our Company”), in cooperation with The Pokémon Company, filed a patent infringement lawsuit on September 18, 2024, against Pocket Pair Inc. (Headquarters: 2-10-2 Higashi-Gotanda, Shinagawa-ku, Tokyo; hereinafter referred to as “the Defendant”) with the Tokyo District Court.
This lawsuit seeks to stop the Defendant’s infringing actions and seeks damages, claiming that the game "Palworld," developed and distributed by the Defendant, infringes on multiple patent rights.
In order to protect our valuable intellectual property, which we have built up through many years of effort, we will continue to take the necessary measures against any infringement of our intellectual property, including our brand.
