Advance Screening Event with Cast Highlights Behind the Scenes

An advance screening and pre-screening talk event for the TV anime Daemons of the Shadow Realm, set to air from April 4 every Saturday at 11:30 PM, was held on the 22nd in Tokyo. Attending the event were Kensho Ono, who plays the protagonist Yuru, Yume Miyamoto as Asa, Yuichi Nakamura as Dera, Misaki Kuno as Gabby, and Junichi Suwabe as Jin.

As the screening had not yet taken place, the five cast members carefully avoided spoilers while engaging in a lively and friendly discussion. When asked about their approach to their roles, Ono explained that since Asa is Yuru’s only blood relative, he paid close attention to expressing Yuru’s care for her and to delivering lines in a way that would not cause her worry.

Cast Discusses Character Portrayal and Subtle Details

Miyamoto noted that Asa is a character with dual aspects and encouraged viewers to look forward to that contrast. She also shared that, as Asa and Yuru are twins, she was mindful of conveying their blood connection. Although she modestly mentioned that it might be presumptuous as a junior colleague, she occasionally listened to Ono’s line delivery during test recordings and tried to subtly match his nuance.

Nakamura described Dera as someone who knows more about the world than the others, while Suwabe jokingly introduced Jin as a suit wearing glasses type character who is highly capable at work but has a sharp gaze, drawing laughter from the audience.

Misaki Kuno Receives “Secret” Settings Directly from Arakawa

Kuno then revealed that before recording for episode one began, she was the only cast member invited to meet with the staff, where Hiromu Arakawa personally shared special details about her character that are not depicted in the original manga.

Nakamura humorously reacted by asking if the information came directly from a god, while Suwabe and Nakamura playfully encouraged her to reveal it on the spot, prompting laughter from the audience. Kuno reflected that she used the information she received as the foundation for building her performance.

Studio Visit Leaves Strong Impression on the Cast

During the closing remarks, Ono revealed that he and Miyamoto had visited Arakawa’s studio. He shared that they were able to hear directly about her thoughts and feelings regarding the work, which left a strong impression on them.

Ono expressed that he felt an incredible sense of energy and passion for the series, motivating him to approach recording with full commitment. Speaking about Arakawa, he emphasized how impressive she was and recalled that her workspace was filled with Tsugai, describing it as a room surrounded by them.

The anime is produced by the same powerful collaboration of Square Enix, Aniplex, and Bones that worked on the Fullmetal Alchemist anime series from 2003 to 2011.
