False Anime Adaptation Claim Spreads on Social Media as Game Publisher Issues Warning, Illustrator Apologizes for “Careless Action”

Reports claiming that the game Ore no Hitomi de Maruhadaka Fukachi na Mirai to Misukasu Vision had been greenlit for an anime adaptation spread rapidly across social media platforms. In response, PC game publisher HULOTTE officially denied the claim, stating that no such decision had been made and confirming that the information circulating online was false.

Following the statement, illustrator and character designer Akane Ikegami, who originally announced the alleged adaptation, issued a public apology on February 2 via X. Ikegami explained that the announcement was made based on her personal desire to see the project adapted into an anime and acknowledged that it was posted without authorization.

How the False Information Originated

The controversy began on January 31, when Ikegami posted an illustration alongside a message stating that Ore no Hitomi de Maruhadaka Fukachi na Mirai to Misukasu Vision had officially been approved for anime adaptation. In her post, she wrote that she had served as the character designer and key illustrator for the game and encouraged fans to look forward to the anime, adding that the newly drawn illustration had been created at the request of the production side.

However, on the same day, HULOTTE released an official statement addressing the situation. The company stated that it had confirmed the spread of false information on social media regarding an anime adaptation of its work, as well as the creation of X accounts claiming to be related to the anime. HULOTTE emphasized that there was no factual basis for these claims, no anime adaptation had been approved, and no proposals regarding an adaptation had ever been submitted to the company.

Publisher Emphasizes Lack of Authorization

HULOTTE further clarified that, without its permission, no anime project related to the game could legitimately proceed. The company stated that if any such project were underway, it would be entirely unauthorized and not officially sanctioned. At the time of the announcement, HULOTTE noted that it was investigating the circumstances surrounding the misinformation and asked for patience while the situation was being reviewed.

Illustrator Issues Detailed Apology and Explanation

On February 2, Ikegami published a formal statement on X titled “Notice Regarding the Circumstances of the Anime Announcement.” In the message, she apologized to all parties involved, including the rights holders and fans, for the confusion and concern caused.

Ikegami explained that she had posted the announcement claiming an anime adaptation had been decided purely based on her personal wish to see the work adapted. She acknowledged that the statement was factually incorrect and described her actions as careless.

She further admitted that although all rights to the game and related materials belong to HULOTTE and its parent company, CUFFS Co., Ltd., she mistakenly believed that her role as the original illustrator allowed her to freely use the intellectual property. She stated that she made the announcement without any prior confirmation or consultation. After the incident, she was contacted by CUFFS and came to fully recognize that her actions were unauthorized, inappropriate, and unacceptable.

Ikegami also addressed additional inaccuracies in her original post, clarifying that there had been no concrete progress toward an anime adaptation and that her statement should be understood solely as a personal expression of hope. She admitted that her claim of having been commissioned by a production entity was also false and apologized again for the misinformation.

Finally, Ikegami revealed that the X account claiming to be related to the anime was also created and operated by her personally. She stressed that full responsibility for the incident lay with her alone and that neither HULOTTE nor CUFFS bore any fault. She stated that the posts and related accounts would be removed following discussions with the relevant parties and concluded with a renewed apology for causing public confusion.
