Yuki Kaji Backs New AI Voice Rights Protection System: ElevenLabs Launches VoiceCAPTCHA x C2PA to Combat Misuse and Deepfakes
ElevenLabs, a leading company in AI voice synthesis based in New York, has announced that it has adopted the international technical standard C2PA (Coalition for Content Provenance and Authenticity) to verify the origin and history of AI-generated content. The company has now begun offering services that comply with this standard.

Yuki Kaji
Founded in 2022, ElevenLabs is a global leader in AI audio research and technology. It provides cutting-edge audio tools for businesses, developers, creators, and artists. As of October 2025, the company’s valuation has reached 6.6 billion USD (approximately 1 trillion yen), and its platform is used by over 40 million individuals and thousands of companies, including more than 75% of Fortune 500 firms. The service enables users to create high-quality voiceovers at scale, quickly, and affordably, or to build conversational AI voice agents in more than 30 languages.
The company has already implemented three key proprietary technologies to ensure safety and authenticity:
・VoiceCAPTCHA, a strict identity verification process required for professional voice clone registration;
・Digital watermarking to embed unique identifiers into generated voices; and
・AI Speech Classifier, which detects and identifies those watermarks.
By combining these existing safeguards with the global C2PA standard, ElevenLabs aims to deliver a safer and more transparent AI service for all users.

What Is C2PA?
The C2PA initiative, founded by companies including Adobe, Microsoft, and Google, is an industry-wide framework that attaches tamper-resistant metadata (Content Credentials) to digital content—such as images, videos, and audio—to record its generation and editing history.
Compliance with the C2PA standard enables users to easily verify whether a piece of content was generated by AI and to identify its source, providing a crucial foundation for preventing misuse such as deepfakes and impersonation.
Starting in November 2025, ElevenLabs will begin embedding Content Credentials, which include tamper-proof electronic signatures, into all audio generated on its platform. This will certify that the content originated from ElevenLabs and make unauthorized alterations detectable.
Benefits of C2PA Compliance
For creators (voice actors, performers):
It reduces the risk of unauthorized voice usage and allows proof of origin for AI-generated voice content, helping protect rights and preserve revenue opportunities.
For consumers and users:
It enables easy identification of whether the audio being heard was generated by AI, improving transparency and trust in digital information.
Yuki Kaji Comments on Voice Rights and AI Ethics
“Japan’s approach to AI-generated content is now significantly behind that of other countries. I feared that if things continued this way, it could lead to the decline of creative expression in fields such as entertainment and, ultimately, even the loss of human dignity. While learning how to use AI offensively, we must also prepare ways to defend ourselves. Otherwise, it could eventually become irreversible.
However, in the absence of fundamental solutions such as legal reform, it is true that there are limits to what individuals can do. I was beginning to give up, thinking that the emergence of a system that could truly protect the rights of Japanese voices was still a long way off.
Then came what felt like the arrival of a savior: the long-awaited release of a tamper-proof voiceprint authentication watermark technology, VoiceCAPTCHA x C2PA.
It is truly the trustworthy ‘voice rights protection system’ we have all been waiting for.
Those who wish to use it for creativity.
Those who wish to use it for business.
And, of course, those who wish to use it solely for protection.
Each person can use it in their own way.
The right to your voice belongs to no one else but you.
This decision has nothing to do with being for or against AI.
I hope VoiceCAPTCHA x C2PA spreads as soon as possible, eliminating the harm caused by AI misuse and transforming the image of AI into something more positive.
AI is merely a technology, a tool.
Whether it becomes a criminal or a partner depends on us.
The arrival of VoiceCAPTCHA x C2PA will undoubtedly mark a turning point in the history of AI.”

ElevenLabs CEO on Collaboration with Japan’s Voice Industry
Mati Staniszewski, founder and CEO of ElevenLabs, also shared his thoughts:
“Japan’s anime and voice acting culture is among the richest in the world, and we hold deep respect for its creativity. As an AI company, our mission is not only to innovate but also to build ethics and trust. Our compliance with the C2PA standard will further strengthen our coexistence with Japan’s creator community. We hope this initiative enhances transparency across the entire industry and helps build a future where AI voice technology can be safely embraced.”
