YOASOBI’s “Idol” MV Surpasses 600 Million Views on YouTube and Wins Top Global Hit From Japan at MAJ 2025
The music video for YOASOBI’s hit single “Idol,” released in April 2023, has officially surpassed 600 million views on YouTube—a milestone that underscores its lasting global appeal.
The song served as the opening theme for the TV anime [Oshi no Ko] and quickly captured the attention of fans both in Japan and abroad. It made history as the first J-pop song to top all three of the following global charts:

On May 21–22, “Idol” also won the Top Global Hit From Japan award at MUSIC AWARDS JAPAN 2025 (MAJ), Japan’s largest international music award event recognizing domestic songs that achieved success worldwide.
YOASOBI continues to expand their global presence. In addition to appearances at world-renowned music festivals such as Coachella and Lollapalooza, they’ve also held successful solo shows in Los Angeles and San Francisco. In Japan, the duo completed their first dome tour in fall 2024. Looking ahead, they are set to perform at Primavera Sound Barcelona 2025 this June, as well as an arena concert in London.
Even two years after its release, “Idol” remains beloved by fans across the world. Most recently, YOASOBI released a new track titled “Watch me!” on May 18, which is being used as the opening theme for the anime Witch Watch.
