The first episode of the anime Can a Boy-Girl Friendship Survive? has revealed its story and preview images. The episode will stream in Japan on ABEMA starting Friday, April 4, and will be available globally on various streaming platforms beginning Wednesday, April 9 at 22:30 JST. Additionally, a third key visual has been released.

In the fall of their second year of middle school, Yu Natsume struggles to sell his handmade flower accessories at the school cultural festival. Just when things look bleak, a beautiful girl named Himari Inuzuka shows up and helps him sell out. She says she fell in love with the look in his eyes as he crafted his accessories. Himari proposes they become “shin’yuu”—soulmates or partners in destiny. Though surprised, Yuu accepts. Two years pass, and the story begins anew…

In a quiet countryside middle school, a boy and a girl vow to be friends forever. Sharing a dream, they become inseparable—“shin’yuu,” or soulmates in purpose.

Without any romantic developments, two years pass. Himari Inuzuka, a cheerful and outgoing girl who's never experienced first love, and Yu Natsume, a plant-loving boy who makes flower accessories, remain close friends in their private high school gardening club.

However, everything changes when Yuu reconnects with his first love. Suddenly, the dynamic between the two begins to shift. Can Himari, now discovering the feeling of love, break free from being his “ideal best friend”?
