The Apothecary Diaries Unveils March Visual Featuring Maomao & Lihaku Surrounded by Blooming Canola Flowers

Unveiled on the 22nd of each month—known as “Cat Day” (JP: Nyan Nyan Day)—this special visual project highlights seasonal flora. The ninth installment, released today, features vibrant canola flowers (nanohana), a classic symbol of early spring in Japan.

Maomao & Lihaku

The new visual depicts Maomao and Lihaku each lost in their own whimsical daydreams amid a field of blooming canola. Maomao, ever the practical herbalist, seems absorbed in thoughts of medicinal uses and recipes involving the flower—living true to the saying "dumplings over flowers." Meanwhile, Lihaku, with a soft smile, busily gathers blossoms to craft a bouquet intended for the courtesan he admires, Lady Pairin. Their contrasting daydreams create a charming and humorous tableau.

About The Apothecary Diaries

Based on the novel by Natsu Hyuga with illustrations by Touko Shino, The Apothecary Diaries is a palace mystery drama that follows Maomao, the curious and sharp-witted daughter of an apothecary, and Jinshi, a beautiful and enigmatic court eunuch. Together, they take on puzzling cases within the imperial court.

In Season 2, Maomao returns to her role as food taster at the Jade Pavilion following the announcement of Lady Gyokuyo's pregnancy. As palace intrigue deepens and new threats emerge, Maomao must stay alert to protect both the consort and her unborn child. The duo soon finds themselves at the center of a major incident that could shake the empire.
