New Direction for the Stage Play Series
The Demon Slayer: The Stage series debuted in 2020, with this fifth installment marking a major milestone. Scriptwriter and director Kenichi Suemitsu, who helmed the first four plays, will pass the torch to Tsuneyasu Motoyoshi, introducing a fresh creative direction. The music will continue to be composed by Shunsuke Wada, ensuring continuity in the series’ iconic soundscape.
Story Highlights: Assault on the Swordsmith Village
The play will depict the intense battles between Tanjiro, Nezuko, and their allies as they defend the swordsmith village from an assault by the Upper Rank demons. The storyline is an adaptation of the Swordsmith Village Arc from the original manga.
Background on Demon Slayer
Based on the manga by Koyoharu Gotouge, Demon Slayer ran in Weekly Shonen Jump from 2016 to 2020, with over 150 million copies sold worldwide. Set in the Taisho era, it follows the journey of Tanjiro Kamado, a boy who joins the Demon Slayer Corps to save his sister Nezuko, who has been turned into a demon.
The anime adaptation began in 2019, followed by the globally successful Demon Slayer: Mugen Train film in 2020. Subsequent arcs, including the Entertainment District Arc (2021), Swordsmith Village Arc (2023), and Hashira Training Arc (2024), have continued to captivate audiences. A trilogy film covering the Infinity Castle Arc is set to release in 2025.
