New Stage Adaptation of Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba to Premiere in April 2025
The fifth installment in the Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba stage series, titled Stage: Kimetsu no Yaiba Part 5: The Attack on the Swordsmith Village, will debut in Tokyo and Hyogo in April 2025. The lead cast, including Shogo Sakamoto as Tanjiro Kamado, Karen Takahashi as Nezuko Kamado, and Kiei Sasaki as Muzan Kibutsuji, will reprise their roles from the previous production.
This marks the fifth stage play in the Demon Slayer series, which first premiered in 2020. For this new production, Kenichi Suemitsu, who had previously directed and written the script for the series, will pass the torch to Yasutaka Motoyoshi as the new writer and director. Composer Shunsuke Wada will continue to oversee the music, collaborating with Motoyoshi to bring a fresh vision to the story.
The Swordsmith Village Arc Comes to the Stage
The story follows Tanjiro, Nezuko, and their allies as they engage in a fierce battle to protect the swordsmith village from an attack by the Upper Rank demons.
Based on Koyoharu Gotouge's manga, serialized in Weekly Shonen Jump from February 2016 to May 2020, Demon Slayer has become a cultural phenomenon with over 150 million copies sold. Set in Japan during the Taisho era, it tells the story of Tanjiro Kamado, a young boy who joins the Demon Slayer Corps to avenge his family, who were killed by demons, and to find a way to turn his demon-turned sister, Nezuko, back into a human.
The series' anime adaptation began with Tanjiro Kamado: Unwavering Resolve Arc, which aired from April to September 2019, followed by the record-breaking movie Demon Slayer: Mugen Train in October 2020. Subsequent arcs included Entertainment District Arc (2021), Swordsmith Village Arc (2023), and Hashira Training Arc, set to air in May-June 2024. The Infinity Castle Arc, a trilogy of films continuing the story, is slated for release in 2025.
Comments from Yasutaka Motoyoshi, Writer and Director
“I am honored to join as the writer and director for this production. Just as the Demon Slayers pass their hard-earned knowledge and legacy through generations to face overwhelming challenges, I aim to faithfully carry the torch of Demon Slayer's stage legacy.
The Swordsmith Village arc is a powerful ensemble piece that highlights the themes of Demon Slayers, humans, and demons alike. I hope to fully capture the essence of these characters and their stories, bringing them to life with every ounce of passion I can muster. I look forward to sharing this journey with the audience.”
