Netflix’s Live-Action ‘ONE PIECE’: Iñaki Godoy Interviews Eiichiro Oda in Japanese

Netflix’s One Piece Season 2: Behind the Scenes

Inaki’s Journey in Learning Japanese

Inaki began studying Japanese in earnest in January 2024 and proudly displayed his progress during the interview. Oda praised his efforts, exclaiming, "That's truly impressive!" as Inaki blushed and continued asking questions with enthusiasm.

Oda’s Impressions of the Grand Set

The set for Season 2 has grown even more elaborate, resembling a small town. When asked for his thoughts, Oda commented, "I saw the acting, the massive props, the intricate sets, special effects, wigs, costumes, and the way they handle action—it’s all incredibly detailed, and I’m deeply moved by everyone’s dedication."

The Challenges of the Grand Line

Inaki humorously reflected on the challenges of portraying Luffy, saying, "Season 1 was tough, but this time, we're heading into the Grand Line. Everything is so big and crazy! Why is the Grand Line so difficult? I’m exhausted, Oda-san!" Oda explained, "The Grand Line is meant to be the harshest sea in that world. To surprise viewers, we’ve included giants, bounty hunters, and so many new elements, making this season even more demanding."

Exploring Luffy’s Depth

Inaki shared his growing understanding of Luffy, saying, "The more I play Luffy, the more I realize he’s not just a simple character. He’s much deeper and fascinating. How did you come up with him?"
Oda replied, "Luffy represents my ideal child. Adults often lose freedom as they enter society or the workforce, but Luffy retains a child’s spirit, doing whatever he wants. I think that resonates with hardworking adults and children about to step into society. The more energetically you play Luffy, the more you’ll uplift the viewers."

A Heartfelt Connection

The heartfelt exchange concluded with Inaki exclaiming, "I love you, Oda-san!" followed by a warm embrace.

Previously, in another behind-the-scenes clip, Inaki was seen tearfully thanking his fellow cast members, including Mackenyu, saying, "You all worked so hard. I’m glad we became friends." With these strong bonds, Inaki and the Straw Hat crew are set to face the challenges of Season 2 head-on.
