Golden Kamuy Episode 6 Premieres Tonight: Yuki Furukawa Lost 10 Kg for His Role as Taxidermist Yasaku Edogai, Showing Off His Sculpted Abs
The drama series "Golden Kamuy: The Hokkaido Tattooed Prisoner Battle Arc" (airs every Sunday at 10:00 PM, 9 episodes in total) continues the story of the live-action movie adaptation of Satoru Noda's manga "Golden Kamuy," starring Kento Yamazaki. It is currently being exclusively broadcast and streamed on WOWOW. Tonight (the 10th), Episode 6, titled "The True Craftsman," will air and stream. In response to enthusiastic calls like "I want a cheering screening like for the movie!" and "I want to see it on a big screen!", it has been decided that a "Cheering Screening & Talk Event Ahead of the Final Episode of 'Golden Kamuy: The Hokkaido Tattooed Prisoner Battle Arc'" will be held.
This story is set in Hokkaido at the end of the Meiji era, depicting a mystery adventure revolving around Ainu treasure, featuring compelling characters. Sugimoto (Yamazaki), known as "Immortal Sugimoto" after surviving the Russo-Japanese War, joins forces with Ainu girl Asirpa (Anna Yamada) and escaped prisoner Shiraishi (Yuma Yamoto) from Abashiri Prison to search for the escaped prisoners whose tattoos contain the secret of the hidden gold.
EP6 Story
In Episode 6, Sugimoto and his group are shown a suspicious leather-bound book by Dan (Robertson Morrie). Hearing about sightings of tattooed skins at a tannery run by a craftsman in Yubari, they head there. Meanwhile, Tsurumi keeps tabs on a mysterious figure stealing human bodies from graves following a mining accident. He soon identifies the culprit as a man named Yasukura Edogai (Yuki Furukawa), who runs a taxidermy workshop in Yubari. Impressed by Edogai's precise craftsmanship, Tsurumi skillfully manipulates his way into Edogai's trust, making an unexpected proposition.
A Must-See Dance Scene Featuring Taxidermist Edogai and Lt. Tsurumi
Edogai, the taxidermist, stands out even among the quirky characters of "Golden Kamuy." His skills are unquestionable, but his home holds a deep darkness. Tsurumi's cunning and Edogai's unique talent bring more chaos to the struggle for the tattooed prisoners.
To portray Edogai, Furukawa lost 10 kg, reducing his body fat percentage to under 10% while toning his abs. Pay attention to the Edogai that Furukawa has brought to life. Additionally, the interactions between Edogai and Lt. Tsurumi, played by Hiroshi Tamaki, are also major highlights. In particular, the dance scene—crafted with much care from the song composition, choreography, to syncing with the dialogue—is a must-see! Through Edogai, a new side of Tsurumi emerges.
Unique Costumes and Elaborate Artistry Make the Show Even More Worth Watching
The unique outfit that Edogai wears during a fashion show scene is a masterpiece created by the special effects team, modeled to fit Furukawa's body perfectly. The attention to detail in Edogai's workshop interior is also exceptional. Original manga creator Noda, who visited the set, commented on how the set surpassed the original work in its depth of craftsmanship.
Furthermore, the latter half features a fight set in a coal mine. For this sequence, the art team hand-built carts and rails. The chase scenes inside the mine were filmed using these tracks, rather than as a stationary shoot, giving the scenes an immersive and dynamic feel.
Episode 6 Ending Theme by Kami wa Saikoro wo Furanai: "Hibana
The ending theme for Episode 6, "Hibana," is performed by the rock band Kami wa Saikoro wo Furanai, consisting of Shusaku Yanagida (Vo), Kiichi Yoshida (G), Gaku Kiriki (B), and Ryosuke Kurokawa (Dr). Since their formation in 2015, they have been building their reputation in the live scene and continue to increase their presence.
Regarding the song "Hibana," Yanagida commented, "I see myself reflected in Sugimoto, who clings to life no matter how many times he faces death. It's not just about Sugimoto or me; every being in this world fights for their survival. In those moments when you feel crushed, lose the will to live, or lose hope, I wrote this song as a spark to light a fire in our souls."
