Dragon Ball DAIMA Premieres Today: First Late-Night Series in Franchise History Begins at 11:40 PM

The new series Dragon Ball DAIMA of the Dragon Ball anime franchise begins airing tonight, October 11, at 11:40 PM. This marks the first TV anime in the Dragon Ball series since Dragon Ball Super ended in March 2018, making it the first in six years. It will also be the first late-night broadcast in the franchise's history.

Up until now, Dragon Ball anime series aired in timeslots such as 7 PM on Wednesdays or 9 AM on Sundays, but this time, it is the first to be aired in a late-night slot. At a recent event, Masako Nozawa, who voices Goku, shared her excitement, saying, “I’m just as eager to see what happens next as all of you are! I’m on edge about what’s to come, and I believe this will be an even more entertaining series than ever before. Please invite four friends to watch it with you!”

This new series is a completely original anime written by Akira Toriyama himself, who has meticulously contributed to the production of the story, character designs, and more. The series features many newly created settings, including vehicles, monsters, and background characters. The story follows Goku and his friends, who have been shrunk due to a certain conspiracy, as they venture into an unknown and mysterious world to solve the mystery.

Dragon Ball is a globally beloved manga that ran in Weekly Shonen Jump for about ten and a half years starting in 1984, constantly at the forefront of Japan's pop culture. Its collected volumes have sold over 260 million copies worldwide, setting a phenomenal record. Even after the manga ended, it continued to captivate fans through TV anime, movies, and video games.

In 2013, after a 17-year hiatus, the Dragon Ball film series made a successful return, and in 2015, Dragon Ball Super, based on a concept by original creator Akira Toriyama, began airing. In 2022, the film Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero was released.
