Grand Blue Dreaming Season 2 Announced After 6 Years: Teaser Visual and Voice Actor Comments Released
The production of Season 2 of the TV anime Grand Blue Dreaming has been officially confirmed. After six years since the first season aired in 2018, the new season is in the works. The animation will once again be produced by Zero-G, now partnering with Liber, the studio behind the first season. A teaser visual and celebratory comments from the staff and cast have also been released.
The story follows Iori Kitahara, who moves to a seaside town for college and ends up staying at his uncle’s diving shop, Grand Blue. While Iori dreams of a beautiful beach, a cute childhood friend, and a perfect campus life, he is instead met with a group of guys in a diving club where drinking parties are the norm. Along with his new friend, Kohei Imamura, Iori embarks on a wild life of “naked” days full of mischief and absurdity.
Based on the manga serialized in Good! Afternoon (Kodansha), Grand Blue Dreaming has sold over 10 million copies. The anime adaptation aired in 2018, followed by a live-action movie in 2020, with a stage adaptation set to debut this November.
Comments from the Cast & Staff:
Original Creator: Kenji Inoue
"When I heard that Season 2 was confirmed after six years, I was both surprised and overjoyed. I thought, 'Are people really still this interested in diving after all this time?' It’s a wonderful feeling. After all, this manga was originally meant to promote diving as a marine sport! I hope that through Season 2, we can spread the message about the beauty of the ocean, the power of friendship, the difficulty of physics experiments, and the importance of staying hydrated."
Director/Script/Audio Director: Shinji Takamatsu
"Yeeeeessssss! After waiting so long, the season of Grand Blue has come around again! I honestly thought we wouldn’t get a second season after all the craziness from the first one, but thanks to the sentiment of 'time heals all wounds,' I’m back as the director. I’m so thrilled. Once again, we’ll be diving, stripping, drinking, and causing mayhem. I can’t wait!"
Iori Kitahara (voiced by Yuma Uchida)
"Grand Blue is back!!! In this age where compliance is stricter than it was six years ago, I can’t believe we’re doing this! The heat in the recording studio was so high last time, and we laughed together as we created the first season. I’ll give it my all again so everyone can enjoy the world of Grand Blue! Let’s strip, dive, and drink together!! Cheers!"
Kohei Imamura (voiced by Ryohei Kimura)
"I can’t believe we’re getting a second season of Grand Blue, a series that even the cast thought was a miracle to adapt! Please join us in enjoying their ridiculous yet incredibly fun youth! Cheers!!!"
Nobuharu Tokita (voiced by Hiroki Yasumoto)
"I’m so happy to return to the world of Grand Blue. But are we really okay? Won’t we get in trouble with the higher-ups? Can we finally create a proper romantic diving comedy this time? Or will it be all booze, muscles, and nudity again? I have no idea! But I’m excited. I hope you’ll be waiting for this with anticipation—preferably, naked."
Ryuujiro Kotobuki (voiced by Katsuyuki Konishi)
"I’m so pumped to hear that Season 2 of this all-nude youth diving comedy Grand Blue is happening! Reviving the series after six years is amazing, and it shows just how much demand there was from the fans! I’ll be drinking, playing, and voicing the heck out of this one! Make sure you watch it!!!"
Chisa Kotegawa (voiced by Chika Anzai)
"Six years have passed... and that burning youth is returning in anime form! It’s all thanks to the incredible support from the fans. Thank you so much! I’m really looking forward to seeing the beautiful ocean and the exciting love story unfold again. Like the radio for the 10th anniversary of the manga, I’m sure this will be a pure, charming story. Let’s enjoy it together!"
Nanaka Kotegawa (voiced by Maaya Uchida)
"Congratulations on the decision for Grand Blue Season 2! I’ve been eagerly waiting for this moment! I’m excited to experience that summer again. With this cast, it’s bound to be amazing! Please look forward to it!"
Azusa Hamaoka (voiced by Toa Yukinari)
"Finally, it’s coming back!!! I’m so happy to reunite with the cast and crew of Grand Blue—a project where I’ve had to stifle my laughter at every recording session. I’m beyond grateful! Azusa and everyone in PaB, let’s do this again! Let’s laugh and drink together! Cheers!"
Aina Yoshiwara (voiced by Kana Asumi)
"I’m sure everyone’s thinking the same thing, so let me just say it: Are you serious?! Is this for real?! Can we really do this?! (laughs)
But honestly, beneath all the craziness, it’s a really heartwarming, emotional story, and I’m so glad I get to voice Aina again. Who knows, maybe it’ll surprise us and turn into a genuine, sparkling coming-of-age story! Either way, look forward to it in every sense!"
