[Remarkable] Animated Film 'Look Back' Surpasses ¥1 Billion ($6.3M) in Box Office Revenue, Expands Screening Scale Due to Word-of-Mouth
The box office revenue for the animated film 'Look Back' (released on June 28) has been announced. As of yesterday, July 16, the film has accumulated a total of 599,731 viewers and a total box office revenue of ¥1,017,961,780, which converts to approximately $6,300,000 at today's USD/JPY exchange rate.
According to the film's public relations representative, "Word-of-mouth is spreading, and the scale of the screenings is expanding, keeping 'Look Back' in the spotlight."
'Look Back,' drawn by Tatsuki Fujimoto, the author of 'Chainsaw Man,' is a coming-of-age story about Fujino, a fourth-grade elementary school student, and her truant classmate Kyomoto, who grow through their shared love of manga. One day, a life-changing event occurs. The story begins when their four-panel manga is published in the school newspaper and follows their lives through middle and high school.
When it was published as a 143-page one-shot on 'Shonen Jump+' on July 19, 2021, it received tremendous reactions, with comments like "He's a genius" and "I'm speechless from the shock," recording over 2.5 million views on the first day. It was ranked first in the 'This Manga is Amazing! 2022' male edition and was also nominated for the 'Manga Taisho 2022.' The film stars Yumi Kawai and Mitsuki Yoshida.
