Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle Unveils New Art for First Anniversary, Fans Say “The Sisters Are Truly Heartbreaking”
To mark the first anniversary of the July 18, 2025 release of Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba Infinity Castle Part 1: Akaza Returns, animation studio ufotable unveiled a newly drawn illustration of Shinobu and Kanao on its official X account.

ufotable explained, “This composition was originally considered for the newly drawn ‘Connecting’ illustration unveiled at Comic Market 106 last year. It has now been newly illustrated to commemorate the first anniversary.”

Three illustrations related to the Infinity Castle Arc were posted in succession.
One of them was titled “No. 2: Shinobu and Kanao.” It depicts Shinobu smiling amid soft light as Kanao gazes at her.
The illustration received an emotional response online, with fans commenting, “The sisters are truly heartbreaking,” “This illustration is just too wonderful,” “Tears well up just from looking at it,” “That came so suddenly it woke me right up. The atmosphere feels different from usual, and Shinobu looks so fragile and ethereal. She is beautiful,” and “I cried the moment I saw it.”

Demon Slayer Manga and Anime History
Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba is based on the popular manga serialized in Weekly Shonen Jump from February 2016 to May 2020. Set in Japan’s Taisho era, where man eating demons roam the land, the story follows Tanjiro Kamado, a boy whose family is killed by a demon.
Tanjiro joins the Demon Slayer Corps to turn his demon transformed younger sister Nezuko back into a human and defeat the demon responsible for killing his family. The manga has surpassed 220 million copies in worldwide circulation.
The television anime’s Tanjiro Kamado, Unwavering Resolve Arc aired from April to September 2019 and became a major hit. Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba The Movie: Mugen Train was released in October 2020 and became a social phenomenon, earning approximately 51.7 billion yen worldwide.
The franchise was later adapted into video games and stage productions. The Entertainment District Arc aired in December 2021, followed by the Swordsmith Village Arc in April 2023 and the Hashira Training Arc from May to June 2024.
The Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba Infinity Castle films are being produced as a trilogy. The first installment, Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba Infinity Castle Part 1: Akaza Returns, concluded its theatrical run after surpassing 40.2 billion yen at the Japanese box office.
