Hiro Mashima: 26 Years Without a Break! "EDENS ZERO" Ends After 6 Years of Serialization; "FAIRY TAIL" One-Shot to Be Published Next Week

The manga EDENS ZERO by Hiro Mashima concluded with its final chapter (Chapter 293) in the 30th issue of Weekly Shonen Magazine, released on June 26th.

This marks the end of a six-year journey since its serialization began in June 2018. In his 26-year career since his debut, Mashima has never taken a break, even while managing multiple serializations simultaneously. He continued this streak with "EDENS ZERO," consistently delivering new chapters to readers every week.

Additionally, a special one-shot of his representative work FAIRY TAIL will be published in the 31st issue of the same magazine, released on July 3rd, marking its first appearance in seven years since its conclusion in 2017.

Hiro Mashima, currently 47 years old, won the 60th Weekly Shonen Magazine Newcomer Manga Award in 1998 with "MAGICIAN" and debuted with BAD BOYS SONG in Magazine FRESH. In 1999, he started the serialization of RAVE in Weekly Shonen Magazine, which gained popularity and was adapted into a TV anime. Following this, he released other notable works, including his representative work FAIRY TAIL (2006-2017).

Starting in June 2018, Mashima serialized EDENS ZERO in Weekly Shonen Magazine while simultaneously working on "FAIRY TAIL 100 YEARS QUEST" in MagaPoke and DEAD ROCK in Monthly Shonen Magazine as a story writer. His activities extend beyond manga, including the creation of original anime and games.

Mashima is renowned for his fast-paced writing. Despite having multiple simultaneous serializations, he has never taken a break in his 26-year career. Notably, in 2013, during the serialization of "FAIRY TAIL," he achieved the rare feat of publishing three chapters in two consecutive weeks (a total of 128 pages in two weeks).

With the conclusion of EDENS ZERO, Mashima commented, "Thank you for your support for such a long time. See you again! Please continue to support the magazine."

In an interview with ORICON NEWS, Mashima previously mentioned that he keeps a stock of manuscripts in case of sudden illness, "I do keep a stock of manuscripts because I occasionally catch a cold." When asked about his sleep schedule, he replied, "I ensure I get enough sleep! I sleep about seven hours every day (laughs). I play games for 2-3 hours before bed, and while there are busy days when I don't play, there are also days when I play all day if I finish work early, so I enjoy a fun gaming life. I don't pay special attention to my diet, so I don't do anything in particular."

EDENS ZERO is a sci-fi fantasy about a boy named Shiki living with machines in the dreamland of Granbell. He meets a video-streaming girl named Rebecca and a blue cat named Happy, becoming the first visitors in 100 years, and embarks on a journey across planets. The story has been adapted into an anime, with two seasons aired, and has also been made into a game.

To commemorate the conclusion, the magazine features an interview between Mashima and George Morikawa, the author of "Hajime no Ippo." There is also a special giveaway of autographed color illustrations and books by Mashima and Morikawa. Additionally, a "Complete Volume Storage Box" that can hold all 33 volumes of the manga will be given to all applicants. The final 33rd volume of the comic will be released on August 16th.
