Sgt. Frog New Movie Set for June 26 Release, First in 16 Years, Introducing Key Characters Aruru and Deruru
Sgt. Frog returns with its first new theatrical anime in 16 years, officially set to premiere on June 26. The announcement was made during the AnimeJapan 2026 event held at Tokyo Big Sight, where new characters and production details were also revealed.

First Sgt. Frog Movie in 16 Years Announced at AnimeJapan 2026
The new film, titled New Theatrical Feature Film ☆ Sgt. Frog:Fukkatsu shite Sokko Chikyu Metsubou no Kiki de Arimasu!, marks the franchise’s long awaited return to theaters. The announcement took place during a live recording of “Keroro Gunso no Kerotto Radio” at AnimeJapan 2026.

Alongside the reveal, two brand new characters, Aruru and Deruru, were introduced. These Keronian brothers are said to play a crucial role in the story and may have connections to members of the Keroro Platoon’s past.

Cast Comments and Story Hints from Yuichi Fukuda
The stage featured Kumiko Watanabe, the voice of Keroro, Etsuko Kozakura, the voice of Tamama, promotional ambassador ano, and writer and chief director Yuichi Fukuda.
Fukuda shared that he was repeatedly warned by staff not to reveal spoilers during discussions. While carefully choosing his words, he hinted that Aruru and Deruru play “important roles” in the story. When prompted about their relationship with the Keroro Platoon, Kozakura suggested that mentioning interactions might be acceptable. Fukuda responded that the story would not work without them interacting with the platoon, confirming that such exchanges will take place.

About Sgt. Frog and Its Anniversary Project
Sgt. Frog is based on the manga by Mine Yoshizaki, serialized in Monthly Shonen Ace. The series is a comedy about frog like aliens who come to Earth and cause chaos. The TV anime aired for seven years starting in 2004 and expanded into five theatrical films and various media projects. In 2024, the franchise celebrated its 25th anniversary as a manga and the 20th anniversary of its TV anime.
This new film is part of the anime’s 20th anniversary project. It is directed by Fumitoshi Oizaki, with character designs by Satoshi Koike, and animation production by BN Pictures. Returning staff members who have supported the series over the years are involved. The cast, including Kumiko Watanabe as Keroro, reprises their roles, while the script and chief direction are handled by Yuichi Fukuda, known for the Yusha Yoshihiko drama series and the Gintama live action films.
