Ascendance of a Bookworm: Adopted Daughter of an Archduke Anime Set for Two Consecutive Cours Starting in April

Ascendance of a Bookworm: Adopted Daughter of an Archduke has been officially announced as the latest TV anime installment in the Ascendance of a Bookworm series, with broadcast scheduled to begin on April 4. The series will air for two consecutive cours on the Yomiuri TV and Nippon TV network every Friday at 5:30 p.m. JST. Additional broadcasts have also been confirmed on TOKYO MX starting April 6 in the 9:25 p.m. time slot. Alongside the broadcast announcement, the key visual, promotional video, and opening theme song details were revealed.

The newly released key visual is inspired by one of the most symbolic scenes in Ascendance of a Bookworm: Adopted Daughter of an Archduke, known as the “Night of Schutzaria.” It depicts the protagonist Rozemyne standing in a forest alongside Ferdinand. Reflected on the ground beneath them is the scenery of the Night of Schutzaria itself. Rozemyne wears an expression that suggests firm resolve, while Ferdinand appears to watch over her from behind. What kind of story awaits the two of them. The animation for this new installment is produced by WIT STUDIO, known for works such as SPY×FAMILY, Attack on Titan Season 3, and Yaiba: Samurai Legend.

In the newly unveiled promotional video, WIT STUDIO brings to life the beautiful world of Ehrenfest, its magic, and the protagonist Rozemyne’s unwavering passion for books, as well as her deep feelings for her family. Ferdinand and many other characters who fight alongside Rozemyne are also vividly portrayed.

The video effectively conveys the worldview and atmosphere of the series. The anime’s opening theme song, which is also featured in the PV, has been confirmed as “Pages,” performed by the female vocal group Little Glee Monster. Regarding the creation of the opening theme, Little Glee Monster shared their excitement, saying that they are very happy to be able to add Little Glee Monster as one page within the story of Ascendance of a Bookworm.

Ascendance of a Bookworm tells the story of a female college student who dies just before achieving her dream of becoming a librarian, only to be reincarnated in a medieval Europe inspired fantasy world as Myne, the daughter of a soldier. In this new world, books are luxury items inaccessible to commoners. Refusing to give up, she decides that if books do not exist, she will make them herself. Drawing upon the knowledge from her previous life, she struggles against her harsh circumstances and moves forward toward her dream of creating books with her own hands.

This time, the focus is on Rozemyne and Ferdinand. The key visual reflects the noble society that the story enters in Part 3, as well as the major event of material gathering. The large tree on the left side is a magic tree that bears Ruelle fruit, one of the materials collected. During the full moon at the end of autumn, known as the Night of Schutzaria, the flowers scatter under the moonlight and the fruit begins to grow.

For that reason, the illustration depicts flowers during the daytime in the upper portion, while the reflected nighttime scene beneath the water shows the full moon and the Ruelle fruit. Can you spot the faint silhouettes of Rozemyne and her companions’ highbeasts heading out to gather materials during the purple moonlit Night of Schutzaria. The artwork is truly beautiful, to the point where I would love for everyone to see an illustration that shows only the scenery without Rozemyne or Ferdinand.

Rozemyne is wearing noble attire here, a change from the High Bishop outfit seen in the teaser visual. In fact, many adorable outfits for Rozemyne have been designed for the anime, and this is one of them. Please look forward to seeing where it appears in the story. Ferdinand is also dressed in noble clothing. Since he has often appeared in his High Priest attire until now, this may feel quite refreshing.

Rozemyne appears anxious as she steps into noble society for the first time, while Ferdinand watches over her with a somewhat stern gaze and demeanor. I believe this key visual beautifully captures the relationship between the two. And the catchphrase “Even if we are apart, we are living the same story pages” is incredibly cool. It perfectly expresses Rozemyne’s situation in Part 3, where she must live apart from her family, and it also overlaps with the title of the opening theme song. Whoever came up with it is truly a genius.
