Mobile Suit Gundam Hathaway: The Sorcery of Nymph Circe is set to premiere on January 30, marking the latest installment in the animated film series Mobile Suit Gundam Hathaway, which first debuted in theaters in 2021.

On the 18th, a special pre release screening event titled Flash of Light Rally Meeting was held in Tokyo. Kensho Ono, who voices Hathaway Noa, and Reina Ueda, the voice of Gigi Andalucia, appeared on stage to greet audiences ahead of the film’s opening.

With the release finally approaching, Ono shared his feelings with a wry smile, saying that it felt both like he had been waiting for this moment and apologizing for the long wait. He noted that nearly five years had passed since the first film, and during that time, he and Ueda were often asked when the sequel would be released. Since even the cast did not know, they could only respond by saying they were unsure themselves. Ono added that he was sincerely happy that they could finally share The Sorcery of Nymph Circe with audiences.

Ueda echoed his sentiments, saying that she felt both apologetic for the wait and relieved that the film could finally be delivered to fans. She reflected on the relationships formed in the first chapter between Hathaway, Gigi, and Kenneth Sleg, voiced by Junichi Suwabe, and encouraged viewers to enjoy the film while thinking deeply about how those encounters shape the characters’ actions in the new story.

Hathaway’s Signature Towel Draws Attention as a Notable Item

The conversation later turned to merchandise related to the film. Among the items that caught the attention of both actors was a face towel featuring Hathaway’s signature, officially titled Mobile Suit Gundam Hathaway: The Sorcery of Nymph Circe Face Towel, priced at 2,200 yen.

Hathaway’s signature, which appeared in the first film, was carefully designed by calligrapher Minako Mito to convey a deliberately broken and unstable impression. Numerous signature based items are available, and the product description for the towel reads, “This face towel features the signature of protagonist Hathaway Noa. Its simple design is wonderful.”

Ono remarked that Hathaway’s signature left a strong impression, while Ueda commented that it seemed to reflect Hathaway’s inner self.

The Mobile Suit Gundam Hathaway series strongly inherits the worldview of Mobile Suit Gundam: Char’s Counterattack from 1988, which depicted the final battle between Amuro Ray and Char Aznable. Centered on the anti Earth Federation movement known as Mafty, the story weaves together the intersecting fates of its leader Hathaway Noa, the mysterious young woman Gigi Andalucia, and Federation Colonel Kenneth Sleg.

The first film, released in 2021, became a major hit, earning over 22.3 billion yen at the Japanese box office. In The Sorcery of Nymph Circe, the series is said to deliver its most intense drama yet. As Hathaway is reminded of past trauma through his encounters with Gigi, he struggles with her words while continuing preparations for Mafty’s objective and the planned attack on the Adelaide Conference.
