Mitsuo Fukuda, director of the theatrical anime film Mobile Suit Gundam SEED FREEDOM, revealed on January 9 that he had undergone surgery, sharing an update along with a photo on his X account.

In his post on X, Fukuda explained that a minor health issue was discovered toward the end of the year, leading to surgery on that day. He wrote that he had the operation and added that he would officially declare quitting smoking for now.

The photo shared alongside the post shows Fukuda resting on a hospital bed in a patient room, offering fans a glimpse of his current condition.

Fukuda is known for directing numerous influential anime titles, including Future GPX Cyber Formula, GEAR Fighter Dendoh, and Mobile Suit Gundam SEED, and has played a major role in shaping the Gundam franchise over the years.
