Historie is receiving a television anime adaptation, it has been officially announced. The manga is written by Hitoshi Iwaaki, best known internationally as the creator of Parasyte, with animation production handled by LIDEN FILMS. Alongside the announcement, the first teaser visual and a teaser promotional video were revealed, and a comment from original creator Iwaaki has also been released.

A Long Awaited Historical Epic Finally Comes to Animation

Serialized in Afternoon magazine published by Kodansha, Historie is a large scale historical manga that has surpassed 4.7 million copies in circulation. The work is especially notable as a story that Iwaaki had been developing in his mind even before making his professional debut as a manga artist.

Set in the era before the Common Era, the story follows the turbulent life of Eumenes, a historical figure who would later become the official secretary to Alexander the Great. Born to the nomadic Scythian people yet unaware of his true origins, Eumenes is raised by Greek adoptive parents in the city state of Cardia, where he acquires a classical Greek education.

One day, after his adoptive father is murdered, Eumenes learns the truth about his birth and is stripped of his status, falling into slavery. This moment marks the beginning of a long and perilous journey that shapes his destiny.

The first teaser visual, released on January 1 to coincide with the start of the new year, depicts Eumenes walking forward with the city of Cardia behind him and a vast, rounded horizon stretching ahead. The teaser PV further emphasizes the sense of an expansive and distant journey awaiting the protagonist.

I would like to express my heartfelt gratitude to everyone involved in the creation of this anime. The concept for this story was born more than 40 years ago, and over 20 years ago, drawings on paper began to take shape in a small workspace.
