In the footage, Gintoki Sakata remarks that the city seems to fear sunlight, setting the tone for the story set in a sunless city driven by desire. The trailer introduces key figures including Hinowa, the oiran who reigns at the top of Yoshihara, Seita, a young boy who believes Hinowa is his mother, and Tsukuyo, the guardian of Yoshihara. The story escalates with fierce battles against Kamui, Kaguras brother, Abuto, and the Night King Hosen, who dominates Yoshihara with overwhelming strength, wealth, and power as one of the most formidable members of the Yato clan.

As Gintoki shouts that the fun party is about to begin, SUPER BEAVER’s Sanzen plays over vivid scenes of Yoshihara engulfed in flames. The trailer highlights nonstop action sequences including Shinpachi and Kagura confronting Abuto, as well as appearances by characters who did not feature in this arc in the original manga, such as Kotaro Katsura. Members of the Shinsengumi, including Isao Kondo, Toshiro Hijikata, Sogo Okita, and Sagaru Yamazaki, also make their appearance.

The theatrical poster carries the tagline Cut Through the Darkness and depicts Gintoki, Shinpachi, and Kagura wielding wooden swords against the backdrop of a burning Yoshihara. Behind them loom Hosen, Kamui, and Abuto, all wearing confident smiles. The image also features the Shinsengumi members and the striking visual of Elizabeth dressed as an oiran, creating a powerful and dynamic composition.
Support messages have arrived from Shinji Takamatsu, the first director of the Gintama anime who supervised the original Yoshihara in Flames arc, and Yoichi Fujita, the second series director who served as director for the TV arc and supervisor for the new film. In addition, it has been announced that Gintama The Final, the highest grossing film in the series released in 2021, will receive its first terrestrial television broadcast on TV Tokyo and affiliated networks starting at 12:45 AM on January 2, 2026.
Originally serialized in Weekly Shonen Jump from December 2003 to June 2019, Gintama is based on the manga by Hideaki Sorachi. Set in an alternate Edo period ruled by alien beings known as the Amanto, the series follows the eccentric samurai Gintoki Sakata and his Odd Jobs companions in a science fiction period comedy. The manga has surpassed 73 million copies in circulation and has been adapted into TV anime, theatrical films, and live action movies.
The story of Shin Gintama The Movie Yoshihara in Flames takes place in Yoshihara, an underground pleasure city deprived of light and ruled by the Night King Hosen. Gintoki, Shinpachi, and Kagura enter the city as Odd Jobs members, bringing one of the most acclaimed arcs in the series history, the Yoshihara in Flames arc, to life as a completely new animated theatrical production.
