When it comes to this series, a new phrase has emerged for me: “Because it’s Gintama.” I feel that Gintama has become a work where doing anything is officially allowed, simply because it is Gintama. That freedom is something truly unique to this series, and for me it really stands out as something special.
From time to time, I see comments online saying things like, “I was born and raised with Gintama, so when it comes to historical figures, I can only think of them by these names.” The Gintama character names have become so deeply ingrained that quite a few people, even adults, end up confusing them with real historical figures. So regarding any misunderstandings about historical knowledge, I cannot take responsibility for that. Please sort that out on your own.

During interviews for Gintama The Final, while everyone was expressing sadness about parting ways, I remember saying something like, because you love something, there are times when you have to say goodbye. Otherwise, people cannot grow up. But honestly, none of that matters anymore.
If you love something, you should keep saying that you love it, and keep expressing that love. When you do, different kinds of love connect and spread, and all sorts of miracles can happen. Even things that might look a bit sloppy from the outside can turn into something people say is great and fun. Looking back, maybe I was trying to act a little cool back then. From now on, I am going to be honest. Please let us keep making Gintama.

To share a bit of behind the scenes reality from the anime industry, it is actually quite common for recordings to happen before the animation is fully completed. But during this recording session, there were more finished visuals than I expected. They were already in color. Just seeing that made it very clear how high the quality of this production is, so you really should have high expectations.
It feels like it is going to be one of those works where you say, “The visuals look great.” Also, what is truly amazing is that everything was recorded again from scratch. Sixteen years have passed, and yet we all gathered once more to record together. That is actually a remarkable thing. As performers, it will be interesting if viewers feel that we have not changed at all, and if they feel that we have grown or evolved, that would be incredibly rewarding as actors.
This film is also a great opportunity to compare the past and the present. If you are reading this before the movie opens, I personally recommend watching the Yoshiwara in Flames arc from the previous television series first, and then seeing this movie. I think that will make the experience even more enjoyable.

There are a lot more surprise elements this time around. Whether you already know the story or are completely new to it, I think everyone will be able to enjoy those surprises. That is why I really want you to look forward to it.
Since they are surprises, I cannot say too much about them. But I hope you keep raising your expectations and go into the film excited.

For those who have watched the television series for years, and for those who also saw the movie that was labeled as the final chapter, this new film feels like Gintama throwing in one more big surprise, as if to say, “We made another movie.”
Because this is a series that has continued for so long, it feels like receiving an incredibly big bonus. I hope viewers will enjoy it with the feeling that they have received one last, very large surprise gift.
Whether or not there will be another theatrical film after this, I do not know. But considering that Gintama has continued while constantly being joked about as ending over and over again, if this movie becomes a big hit, I am sure the people involved will start thinking, “Maybe we should make another one.” So I think what happens next depends on all of you. Please help make this movie a success.
