“Elegy for the Henchmen: Fist of the North Star” to Premiere in Japan on January 5, 2026
The short anime “Elegy for the Henchmen: Fist of the North Star” will begin airing in Japan on January 5, 2026, on TOKYO MX. The series is a comedic spin-off of the hard-boiled action title “Fist of the North Star” and serves as the first project under the new animation label Animatica.

Unlike the intense and dramatic battles fought by powerful warriors in the main story, this new work focuses on the everyday lives of the low-ranking soldiers of the Ken-Oh Army. These henchmen survive in a world ravaged by nuclear war and ruled by violence. They are needlessly aggressive yet inexplicably cheerful, facing their fates with smiles and meeting their often sudden ends without a trace of gloom. Their dry, almost refreshing way of living and dying forms the core comedic appeal of the series.

On the twentieth, novelty tissues inspired by the 1980s—when “Fist of the North Star” dominated pop culture—were distributed to commuters. Whether longtime fans familiar with the original manga and anime or people who simply recognized the name, many accepted them with delight. Approximately two thousand packs were handed out in under an hour. Those who lived through the era smiled, saying “Fist of the North Star, of course I know it,” suggesting that this revival has the potential to bring back audiences who have drifted away from anime and manga. A young female fan, who visited after seeing the announcement posted on the official X account, was also spotted among the crowd supporting the promotion.
