Tetsuo Hara Brings His Style to Pokémon Cards

Renowned manga artist Tetsuo Hara, best known for creating Fist of the North Star, has lent his talents to the Pokémon Trading Card Game. His illustration of the "Palafin ex" SAR (Special Art Rare) card is featured in the High-Class Pack: Terastal Festa ex, released on December 6.

To commemorate this collaboration, the February issue of Monthly Comic Zenon (released December 25) includes a special clear file featuring Hara’s artwork of "Palafin ex" as a bonus item.

Hara's Vision for "Palafin ex"

In an interview, Hara shared insights into his artistic approach, stating, “I focused on capturing the ‘coolness’ of the character. While maintaining the Pokémon essence, I wanted to add my signature touch of powerful impact.”

He further explained, “I drew multiple fists to convey dynamic motion, emphasizing the reflections of light and water. The afterimages of the fists are rendered in muted tones, while the primary fist stands out with a red tint to enhance its impact. I hope viewers can feel the strength and energy emanating from the fists.”

The interview also includes behind-the-scenes anecdotes, with Hara revealing moments when his creative zeal was reined in: “There were times I was told, ‘This is too much,’ as I tried to infuse more of my style.”
