The TV anime SANDA (JP: サンダ) is set to premiere on October 3 on the MBS, TBS, and BS-TBS “Animeism” block, among other networks. Alongside this announcement, the main visual and main promotional video were released.

The newly revealed main visual introduces additional characters and cast members. Toshihiko Seki will voice Hifumi Oshibu, the 92-year-old headmaster of Dakoku Aigo Academy, who is obsessed with youth and undergoes repeated full-body plastic surgeries. Akihiro Hirata will play Saburo Yagiuda, an ace of the St. Nick Pursuit Unit, specialists in capturing Santa. Both characters’ voices are featured in the dynamic main PV, showcasing Science SARU’s signature animation style.

The opening theme will be Adultic Children by yama, while the ending theme will be Diary by Soshi Sakiyama. Based on the manga by BEASTARS creator Paru Itagaki, the series presents a unique Santa Claus hero action story set in a near-future Japan facing extreme population decline, where children are excessively protected. The manga ran in Weekly Shonen Champion from 2021 to 2024.

ーCould you share your thoughts on being cast in SANDA and a message for fans looking forward to the show?

Among Paru Itagaki’s works, SANDA was one I had always been intrigued by. The individuality of Hifumi Oshibu stands out even among her many fascinating characters. I wanted to approach the role with a fresh mindset so I could bring out his unique presence as vividly as possible. I hope everyone looks forward to it.

―Since this is an action series where Santa Claus plays a central role, what would you wish for if you could ask Santa?
If a Santa Claus like the one in this story really existed, every Christmas would certainly be exciting (laughs). But if there truly were such a Santa, I’d want him to promise a future where children everywhere can live safely and peacefully.

—Could you share your thoughts on being cast in SANDA and a message for fans looking forward to the show?
My character appears later in the story, but I was warmly welcomed and had a great time recording. These days it’s rare for a cast to go out drinking together after recording, but with this show, everyone turned out to be heavy drinkers. We ended up staying out until late at night after every session. Murase, I’m counting on you!

— Since this is an action series where Santa Claus plays a central role, what would you wish for if you could ask Santa?
I’ve lived more than 60 years, and I’m still full of desires and selfish thoughts. I’d like to ask Santa to help me become the kind of person who can honestly say, “I have nothing left to wish for.”
