Yoshihiro Togashi Updates Fans After 9 Months: 'Hunter x Hunter' Chapter 413 Backgrounds Completed

On August 19, Hunter x Hunter creator Yoshihiro Togashi updated his official X (formerly Twitter) account for the first time in about nine months, sharing the latest progress on the manga’s upcoming chapter. His last post had been on December 21, 2024.

In his brief update, Togashi wrote: “No.413 Backgrounds Completed” and posted a photo of part of the manuscript. The update sparked excitement online, with fans flooding the comments section with messages such as “It’s been so long—welcome back, Togashi-sensei!”, “We’re so happy to see you working again”, and “This is the best news ever!”

Hunter x Hunter, which began serialization in 1998, follows the story of Gon Freecss, a young boy who embarks on an adventure with friends like Killua to become a Hunter. The current arc, known as the Dark Continent Expedition / Succession War arc, depicts the clash of schemes and ambitions among Kurapika, members of the Phantom Troupe, and other characters aboard the voyage toward an unexplored land. The manga has surpassed 84 million copies in circulation (including digital editions).

The last weekly serialization ended with Chapter 400, published in the December 26, 2022 issue of Weekly Shonen Jump. After nearly two years, new chapters (401 onward) began running weekly from October 7, 2024. However, it was later announced that serialization would once again go on hiatus starting with the magazine’s New Year Issue #3, released December 16, 2024.
