The 2025 Sanrio Character Ranking results were announced at "SANRIO FES 2025," held on June 29 at Pacifico Yokohama in Kanagawa. After a 9-year gap, Pompompurin reclaimed the top spot for the fourth time overall.

Pompompurin, who placed 4th last year, received overwhelming support both in Japan and internationally. He maintained the lead from the first tally and the mid-term results, ultimately winning 1st place again—his first victory since 2016.

Coming in 2nd was Cinnamoroll, who had achieved an impressive five-year winning streak up until last year. 3rd place went to Pochacco, known for his five-year winning streak in the 1990s and his recent resurgence in popularity. Kuromi, celebrating her 20th anniversary, came in 4th, while Hello Kitty, who marked her 50th anniversary last year, placed 5th. These results highlight the enduring global popularity of Sanrio’s beloved characters.

Other notable rankings include My Melody and Little Twin Stars, both celebrating their 50th anniversaries, in 6th and 7th place respectively. Hangyodon, marking his 40th anniversary, secured 8th. The unit “HAPIDANBUI,” formed for its 5th anniversary and consisting of Pochacco, Hangyodon, Tuxedosam, Ahiru no Pekkle, Badtz-Maru, and Keroppi, also made strong showings. Notably, Ahiru no Pekkle returned to the Top 10 for the first time since 1994—31 years ago.

Hanamaru Obake, now in his third year since debut, rose to 12th (up from 14th), and Usahana, who enjoys strong popularity in North America, jumped from 20th to 17th.
On stage, Pompompurin delighted fans, exclaiming, “Yay! Am I really number one? Thank you sooo much for all the support! I want to prepare lots of yummy treats to thank everyone! I may be laid-back and easygoing, but please keep cheering for me!”

The Sanrio Character Ranking is now in its 40th year and continues to grow in scale and popularity. This year’s vote count reached a record-breaking 63,160,696, approximately 111% of last year’s total.
